Just because you don't...? Its the most sensible option rather than bodging a 1.8 in there...

Jony's 1.8 is epic don't you know...
Anyway, back on topic, Car looks good, even more so with a proper engine in there now. 1.25 sounds like a diesel lol.

123bhp/125ps
they feel slow, the power doesnt feel very progressive, and whats better still, my 1800 eats them up
bodged in i hear?
i proved it could be done cheaper than a 1.7, and i have no arguement it failed

puma converstion is good in this case were it was a 1.25 and now stepped up to the 1.7 club bet the speed and power increase feel great mate
and jonys 1.8 converstion was not the best but he did prove it is very double with out much knowledge or no how
and my 2.0 converstion will prove that a blacktop into a fiesta can be done and hopfully work very well and once its all done will be doing a full guide and mayb even selling off the shelf custom mounts so will be not much work more than the puma all toghter

nick? whats the beef mate? my si pulls nicely away from my maes 1.7 puma, im just proving them engines aint the 'gods' some make them seem, yes theyre a great step up from any of the other Se engines
but unless you deem to leave it as it is, or dont want to chase figures, theyre fine, if you ignore the fact all the Ses are incredible feeble and weak, they cant take a max of about 10psi on boast if your silly enough to spend that fortune on one
they suffer terminal damage if the oil level drops too low, do it one too many times and they will tap away untill they lose theyre bearings, litrally, often at a lowish milage
my mates 1.4 ghia i bought as spares was on 79k and had its bottom end fail due to low oil, its gearbox has gave up on a seperate occation, and the timing belt had gone snapping 10-14 valves on another occation.
and dont forget that the 1.7 is not very tunable, a fellow on robs forum (nathan) bought a tuned one with a remap, higher lift cams, 4-2-1 manifold and a air filter and it refused to go past 140bhp, he was promised it should make more than 150 as its the same ingredants as the racing lump
im sorry i know its the simplest option for you two, but i have little respect for that engine, its oftens een as a simple easy option to get some power, but is over praised at the same time, unlike the 2.0 zetec its actually a good strong engine
a fine point leigh, besides that link you provided nick was only rthe badly made front mount that snapped, and the pot hole i hit was a fudgekin well!

This has grown on me. Love it! Glad you got a better engine...
Always thought about wether I could ever put a Puma lump in my Mk3 but I'd have trouble I'm guessing. LOL

I'm not sure tbh fella, I had an off day yesterday I think
I don't think the 1.7 is a godlike engine btw, I just think its the quickest and easiest route to more power rather than having to spend ages fabricating mounts and wiring looms etc.

Re: TreColl's Mk4!
Henry, Its a little lower, once I have the same profile tyres on the front I think it may work out to be about even, when you consider how much weight is in the boot...
Wayne, Yes, the 1.25 did sound bad, I should have done something about it sooner really as it was already starting to tap at ford fair
Ratspeed, the 1.7's are nippy, It's been able to keep up with quite a few faster cars, including a BMW 330 the other day....
Clark, Well why didn't you say they were that cheap. I'll stop on my way home from work cba, with the ariel, mine isn't even connected to anything...!!
Good to hear it nick, I've been silently watching a few threads on here , I may have even commented in yours, You definately wont regret the £750, I've not heard a bad word about Jack, and he gets his engines from the same place I got mine!!
leighk2010, Yours is one the threads i've been watching, looks good to see someone doing the conversion properly. I'm still getting used to the extra power, but its goooood!
James, fitting a puma lump is possible, not worth the effort. And you need to make sure you get the mounts made properly. Easier just to go down the normal route tbh.

Yeah true. It's either a 2.0 Mondy lump or keep my 1.1 with bike carbs slapped on I guess.

Re: TreColl's Mk4!
The engine cover I currently have, is broken, it has a crack in it.
So i found one cheap on ebay, which I have painted today, it just needs laquer at some point then I'll swap it over.
I will put the badge back on, and I was kindly donated a carbon and silver gel overlay for it
Thats radient red, with black sharpie!
I'm thinking about srpaying the bolts black too, as they are silver :?
(Yes, I am wearing pink toed socks )
Went out and fitted the cover tonight. Its more of a test to see if it can withstand the heat, before I laquer it and fit the badge back on.
Annoyed though, as I dropped one of the bolts onto the subframe, by the very hot exhaust manifold! Will try and recover it once its had a chance to cool down.
Also popped into Ford on my way home from work. I was after the following;
Fuel Cap Sealing Ring - Not available, Sell the whole cap for ~£78
All the bolts on the wishbones - Only front pinch bolts in stock.
New header tank - £11.48 - Not in stock.
Header thank cap.... £12.48!!!! Funnily enough, my one is ok :blub:
So left with only the pinch bolts, will get the rest of the bolts on saturday morning before I (finally) change the wishbones!!

Finally got round to doing the wishbones and drop links today. Car handles soooo much better!
The arms I got, look completely different to the genuine ones that were fitted. So I kept the genuine ones and will get the bushes changed to powerflex and new ball joints put on for when these ones wear out.

There isn't much else to say to that.

No, the only one we took, is the one I posted above...

Well yes, its done. But no, there were two others helping.[/quote]

Yes, again, as I posted, I broke the slave cylinder whilst bleeding the clutch, so had to get a new one.
