TreColl's MK5 ZS Daily Track female provider of 'horizontal refreshment'
I finally made a decision about what to do car-wise. I decided to build a car for track use. It will stay road legal, as it will be my daily.
I wanted to be fussy about what I would buy, and was looking all over the place for something suitable. My main requirement, was that it was a MK4 or MK5 fiesta, and solid. Anything else would be a bonus.
I saw this Fiesta Zetec-S on FiestaTurbo and asked for a hell of a lot of pictures!
It's already had the expensive stuff done to it!
It's on AP Coilovers, It's fully polybushed, 300mm ST170 brakes, smoothed boot, slightly extended bonnet, A full Milltek 4-2-1 with de-cat fitted. Oh and a respray in Frozen White!
So I had an epic journey this weekend, from my house in Surrey, all the way to Blackpool! (A/E-B on the map)
It was advertised with White Flat Faced Comp MO5's, like so;
But unfortunately, issues prevailed and I couldn't get them. (His end, not mine)
So I had have these 7 Spoke TSWs. They work quite well on the car, just a shame their multi-fit!
After filling the car with petrol, we moved onto point C, a premier inn
We went out to see Ted at the cinema (fudgekin hilarious!) and when we got back, I parked the car under the window of our room
Then on Sunday, we set off, via the peak district, towards Simmo's house! My Shat-Nav went very crazy and we didn't take the exact route shown, as we rejoined the M6 at one point
After being greeted by a Dressing Gown wearing Simmo, Adam (ajb222) arrived too!
Adam came to collect these out of my car;
Because I was fitting these into my car;
Eventually, got to it's final resting place! Over 350 miles, it got through about a 1/4 of a litre of oil, so not too bad, for a Phase 1 engine that's done 100k
I covered it up;
and sent out the security guards;
Annoyingly, I was sent this picture this morning...
The cover must have blown off over night.
It's parked under a tree, which is why I have the cover over it. It's still clean apparently though.
There are a few small electrical niggles to sort, but they won't take me long. And guess what!? It needs a Heater Control Valve!
Niggles are;
Dashboard lights don't work.
N/S Sidelight is out
N/S Taillight is out (combined fuse with above?)
O/S Number plate light is out
Front fog lights don't work
I want to get it on the road asap, as I really, really, really dislike the derv having driven this!

Re: TreColl's MK5 ZS Track female provider of 'horizontal refres
Yeah, they're on his ST. Apparently he went to take them off on Saturday morning and snapped the locking key.
Gonna investigate the electricals on Wednesday when I'm next over that way. Bought a new HCV for it today too.
EDIT: A quick flick through my old haynes manual, seems to point to all the electrical faults being one poxy little 7.5 amp fuse!!

I watched it tick onto 100k on the M1 on the way home, pre-empted the move onto the hard shoulder just in case, but alas, it made it

Yeah, the second 1.25 engine in my red car used to use 5 litres per 250 miles! Not surprised it actually threw a rod when I didn't keep filling it up

Re: TreColl's MK5 ZS Track female provider of 'horizontal refres
Exactly Jony.
As promised, heres the picturefull update!
So, first task of the day, was take out the passenger seat for better access... Easy!
I needed to fit the missing harness eye loop into the drivers seat. I started filing out the hole, then realised I had another bolt that used the same thread, so could have just used that from the start :drunk:
And harness reattached
Next was to remove the carpet... the easy way!
Passenger seat was already out, so out came the handbrake gaiter;
Then off came the gear knob, and out came the centre console;
In came Moppet :roll:
Out came Stanley...
And so, the carpet came out... As said, the easy way!
Basically, I cut around the drivers seat!
The car has had some welding in the past; (Drivers rear seat mount)
And needs a bit more soon; (Passengers footwell)
The end result;
I will at some point, paint the interior in Ford Graphite Grey, to go with the bump strips and wheels etc. Also need to remove the sound deadening and other crap. Couple of small bits of surface rust to take back too.
On other notes; I changed the HCV and the heater is still hot, so I guess I need to get a new Heater Control Panel. Low priority though tbh.
I looked at the fuses, and the 7.5a fuse that I suspected to be the issue... Well... it wasn't a 7.5amp fuse, a previous owner has obviously changed it for a 15amp fuse, but even that has blown! So I'm gonna have to try and trace the wiring and see if there is a short somewhere...

This is the "AC" part number, which is the latest revision. I bought it direct from Ford. I know that isn't the issue as the solenoid valve moves OK when I tested it.

Re: TreColl's MK5 ZS Track female provider of 'horizontal refres
Last night's task was to start by tracing the wiring issue.
Fuse 6, a 7.5 amp fuse would blow everytime the sidelights were put on.
Fuse 6 gives power to the following;
and then started to replace things one by one, testing as I went along. Thankfully the third thing I reconnected was the issue... One of the pins on the N/S headlight multiplug was bent out of shape and shorting the sidelight feed with the headlight levelling motor.
I then double checked all the electrics, so headlights and fog lights etc.
Looks mean as f**k IMO!
Seeing as I was in Halfords to get some fuses anyway, I bought a couple of cans of Graphite Grey. So I done a test area in the passengers footwell. The interior will definitely be going this colour;
I then decided to spray that area properly. So I removed the top hat and gave a second coat.
More work tonight, then progress may start to slow down, as it may be insured

Re: TreColl's MK5 ZS Track female provider of 'horizontal refres
Here's last night's work!
First of all, I finished painting the rear half of the passengers footwell. But didn't take any pictures. I removed the kick trims, tucked the cables out the way and done right up to the door seals.
Done a part of the rear bench area too, but need to strip the rear and take out the sound deadening before I do it properly.
I put the passenger seat back in too - First time it's been properly bolted into the car!
I then cleared out and painted the front part of the passenger footwell. I haven't done all of it, as I cba to move some of those wires, so that'll be done at a later date. It's good enough for now!
Then it started raining! Was quite pleased to see she beaded up nicely Not a very good picture though!
I put all the speedo surround back in and all the buttons etc.
And then turned her around so I could get to the other side!
As she was all warmed up I took this quick video on my phone - note the idle is a smooth note, the camera just makes it sound weird.
Then I started looking at the drivers footwell. I was poking at the rusty patches, and my screwdriver went through one of them!
Managed to make it this big, so will get that welded up with the passengers one at some point.
That's all for now. Might pop back again today, depending on the weather.
