I've been slowly doing bits as and when I can to this. I've been working quite a bit lately, doing private jobs too. So is usually dark by the time I get home!

I got the rear quarters on both sides painted up to a point. Will stay like this now till after winter when I'll take the headlining out etc.
Image
Image

I cut out the boot light wiring, but didn't bother disconnecting anything. So I blew one of my new LED fuses...
Image
The LED lights up when they are a blown! Such a great invention!!

My car is filthy, because I went here:
Image
Which required parking in a field. To get out at the end of the wet day, I actually had to take the fuse out of the traction control to stop it moaning constantly!

I was doing something in the engine bay the other day (can't actually remember what!) and lent on the firewall. Cracked it, so removed it completely...
Image

I'm getting 3 tyres changed on Thursday, so I'm low on cash this month. Bought this though and drilled a couple of holes in it.
Image
Image

It needs some fettling as it doesn't fit right, due to the slightly trimmed heater control panel from the big radio that was originally fitted to the car.
I've also broken the LC button, I need to resolder one of the connections.

Two packages arrived at work today. One small packet, and one LARGE box!

The small packet contained these from JJC. I didn't get one with the car, and wasn't sure what size was needed. They were pretty cheap so I ordered both!
Image
1.9" and 2.25" C-Spanner for adjusting the height of the coilovers.

Since I've had new tyres fitted, I need to raise the front by a few mm as I'm getting quite a bit of scrubbage! I'll lower the rear too to try and balance it out a bit!

Secondly was this big ol' box!
Image

Has a lovely logo on the side!
Image

and contains two smaller boxes inside!
Image

The smaller contains a hub kit, and the larger contains...
Image
an OMP WRC steering wheel. It's not exactly what I was after, but money restrained me :( lol It's mid-depth at 70mm, but should sit epically!

And I couldn't resist, but to get it out, stroke the suede and fit the horn button! (I'm going to look for a Ford button sticker though :/ )
Image

Will hopefully fit it tonight! In the dark...

That wheel looks smart, Rob! Been thinking about something similar for mine as the XR2i 16v one I've got gets really sweaty in the hands on track!

I really like it smo!
It's fitted now, though I have an issue with the horn (I think the button is broken, so have contacted the company I bought it through).

Just been out for a drive (I've wired the horn to a toggle switch, before anyone jumps on their horses!) and it's amazing how much it actually changes the drive, the steering is a lot lighter, and I found myself "driving properly" as in, two hands on the wheel etc.

This has a 70mm dish, so is considered "mid-depth". I think it's about right actually. You can just about reach the indicator stalks with a finger tip, though I kept missing it!

Fitted the wheel completely in the dark! Had a couple of small issues, but nothing tricky to sort!

Image
Need to get the tracking sorted. That's the wheel in dead-straight!!

I had new tyres fitted at the beginning of this month. It meant that I needed to raise the coilovers, as they were scrubbing quite badly on one side.
I didn't get a C-Spanner, so ordered a couple. For reference, AP Coilovers use a 2.25" C-Spanner.

The N/S/F was the culprit. This is what the shoulder of the two week old tyre looked like! :o
Image

So I raised that 20mm. I didn't adjust the O/S/F, but they are now at the same height! :blub:
As a comparison, this is the shoulder of the O/S/F tyre, it scrubs a little, but no where near as bad as the NS!!
Image

I then went to lower the rear as it sits higher than the front. But one of the locking grub screws is rounded shut. So I'm gonna need to get hold of another one and drill it out. I adjusted the other side, so that side to side, the rear sits the same too!

This is the arch gap on the rear
Image

and the arch gap on the front...

Nothing much here. It's filthy, needs a wash, needs tracking doing.

Filled it up with screen wash the other day! Used it all already!

Trying to get motivated, I fitted the gauges to the holder too.
Image

I've ordered a sandwich plate with holes ready for the gauge sender units. I've had to change tact as I've decided I A) don't want to run the temp sensor in the sump plug and B) the t-piece I ordered for the pressure sensor, needed to be a remote one to fit. I didn't order one of those!

Once the sandwich plate arrives, I'll probably service the car and fit it. Maybe.

---------------------

I mounted the gauge holder into the fascia adapter at the weekend... Twice!

First I tried to glue into place using No More Nails (as my tiger seal had dried out).
I used some ingeniusly invented clamps to hold it together! :blub:

Image
Image
Image

That lasted for about 30 seconds once it had dried!!

So I had a rethink, and used the brackets for the gauges to hold it all together!

Image
Image
Image

It actually holds tighter into the frame as well now. Quite impressed.

Image

Sandwich plate arrived today, so will get that sorted when I can! (Stupid winter being cold and dark! :( )

------------------------------

Got them wired in last night... Just need to fit the sender units!

Image
Loads of wires! :o

Image
Just ignition, so no feed. Not sure why I took this picture!

Image
Lights on, but camera flash!

Image
No flash!

That's all for now folks!

Gonna look at some possible new/track wheels next week. Want to try them on for size though! So will see what happens there.

Ok. So I didn't go look at the wheels, as I've been having the engine problems, which got very bad the past week.

It's knocking, leaking oil, the clutch has had it and it's got a mis-fire under load. - Still I managed to do 4.5k miles in this since I've own it before it broke, probably some form of record for me

Anyway, borrowed my mates van today and went to Warwickshire to pick the new one up. Will get it sorted between Christmas and New Year hopefully.

Image

That's all for now :D Will get a proper spec up later once I've had it dyno'd at powers to confirm the power figure ;)

Redline it in third with low oil, then dump the clutch in first. Should probably do it.

but yeah, I done the same as James to my mk3. Rod through the block!

AAANNNNYYYYWAYYYYYYY

Right. It's been a while since I took these photos, but I'll try and explain them.

As I said, I've done all the work by myself (I'm not a mechanic!) but at a mates garage. He only helped me undo the bolts I couldn't do* and to lift the engine out and in!

*There was one, where I was literally hanging on the ratchet. He comes along and "POP" it's undone!!

It's still not complete as it's not running right, but I've had a phonecall from my mate, and he thinks he's getting somewhere with it now. I've driven it just over 100 miles and boy when it's going, it's going!!

As I said, I was doing this myself, so didn't get many photos. (I have a white phone too, so didn't want it to get filthy!!)

First picture. When I stopped for lunch on Friday. Pretty much ready for the engine to be dropped out. Just the rad to be moved IIRC.
Image

How it got left Friday night... Two engines side by side, moving bits over.
Image

The car on Friday night....
Image
I will one day get around to getting the bay painted white!!

This, I think, was Monday lunch time. Just having changed over the looms, ready for the new lump to go in.
Image

I decided to treat the car to a new radiator, as mine has seen better days! It was £56.40 from Euro Car Parts.

My old one;
Image

The new one; (10 points to whoever spots the mistake in this photo though!)
Image

The new lump with all bits transferred ready to go in.
Image

Once it was in, I went fire it over and... nothing! I had transferred the starter motor over and wasn't happy with it, as it looked like it had been bodged in the past. It didn't cope well with the move...
Image
So I bought a new one from ECP (Love having an account, I phoned them and 10 minutes later, it was delivered!)

Once the motor was changed, it was running! Not right, but running nonetheless!

It was miss-firing, so my mechanic mate was revving it to try and clear it (not hard). All of a sudden, I got covered in my second least favorite fluid...
Image

That's right. PAS Fluid! Unfortunately, I routed a pipe wrong and the alternator belt rubbed through it.
Rather than changing the pipe, I replaced just the rubber section with an oil cooler pipe from an 1987 Rolls Royce Silver Spur. 10cm long... £30!

The damaged pipe...
Image

Sorry about the angle. But here is a crappy video of it running. Remember it's not running right at this point. (Hence the Snap-on Verus was connected and sitting on the drivers seat)
Image

It cut out on me on Sunday night, but I've got it back at the garage and I think we're making progress on it now. Hopefully shouldn't need too much more to work right!
