TreColl's Mondeo ST TDCi
As some of you know, I have made a tough decision to break the track car.
This 2.2l Mondeo came up for a decent price and spec, so I took it out for a test drive. Then arranged to buy it on the Thursday, picked it up at 6pm.
Friday morning, 6am and I'm driving towards Cornwall on what can only be described as the ultimate test drive!!
Having stopped at Okehampton Castle, I took a couple of pictures whilst waiting for Sarah to come back from the loo
I need to get the wheels balanced as there is a shaking at 70 mph, but that was the only issue I've found on a 500 mile trip!
Two plans so far;
1) Make the power fold mirrors, well, fold when the car is locked! They seem pretty pointless otherwise, plus I keep forgetting!
2) Change the head unit to something with sat nav and bluetooth built in so I can remove the parrot unit that is in the car.
Maybe get the wheels refurbed at a latter date too.
But overall I thoroughly enjoy it!

Lovely, I had Eibach springs on mine that brought it down lovely and a de-cat.
The only problem I had with mine was the injectors, re-conditioned for a cost of £750
How many miles has yours done Rob ?
I'm thinking of getting another myself for the Winter.
Enjoy the mpg as well

Re: TreColl's Mondeo ST TDCi
Looks like a nice car you have there mate,
I've got a black 05 plate and i bloody love it. Sooo comfy to drive, loads of torque and i rarely see less than 49mpg average.
I de catted mine and blanked off the egr valve, made an instant 5mpg average
Thought about lowering it a bit but on my last one, it made the ride a little harsh so i have left this as it is. Mine has the factory screens and dvd player so keeps the kids entertained also ( with the addition of the PS2 also! )
Just make sure if you change the fuel filter, you completely fill the new one with fuel before you clip the pipes back on as they are a gammon slipper to bleed once air in the system!!
Also, a k&N panel filter is a nice addition.
ENJOY.

It's on 86k now (I've done 600 miles in it already )
Not looking for more power at the moment, but I guess I will eventually

Blank the egr though! it stops all the s**t going back through the inlet manifold. And makes the car run better.
If you have the one like mine without the electrical connector on it, Just pull the vacuum pipe off and blank the vac pipe.

Re: TreColl's Mondeo ST TDCi
Do the mirrors fold at all at the moment? I believe you push the mirror adjustment knob down to fold them in and out but to disable them you push the button to fold them in and then unfold them manually. It's probably just a case of a combination of folding and unfolding the mirrors and pushing the button until it works as expected.
A decent purchase!

Yeah, they fold on the switch, but as standard aren't connected to the alarm/double locking.
Just a relay and foot of wire!

Re: TreColl's Mondeo ST TDCi
And so it begins!
My radio adapter kit turned up yesterday (not that I've ordered a new radio!)
So I decided to removed the phone holder that was in the car. In doing so, I noticed the really bad (twist and taped) wiring on the parrot kit, so decided to remove that too.
Annoyingly the muppet who installed the kit damaged the piece of trim on the hazard light switch/clock/front and rear screen switches, so I need to order a new one of those as it is just balanced on and falls off if I put my foot down! :blub:
Pickiatures...

Re: TreColl's Mondeo ST TDCi
Lets start with the cool update!
Take one times spare key;
Strip it of it's gubbins;
Put the gubbins in the new key;
And you have a sexy flip key!
The not so good update is as follows.
Went to Castle Combe Action Day yesterday, stopping at membury services on the way there. I noticed that my rear tyres were looking quite low, so I pulled up to the air pump... The NSR had 2 PSI in it!!
As I set off again I noticed what used to be bad vibrations from 65-70 mph was now extremely bad vibrations from 50+ mph (didn't want to chance going much higher!)
I got a passenger ride in this;
Thanks Oli for the pic!
Then got a passenger ride in a Focus RS!! (I soooo want one!)
They were my sessions I had for the ZS, so sold them cheap and in return got a passenger ride!
On the way home, forgot about the vibrations, but limped back to Membury services again. Shortly joined by the FiestaTurbo pit crew and in a scene of Deja Vu, had a spare wheel on my car again!!
This is what was causing the vibrations... The tyre isn't round!!!
Obviously didn't take too well to being run flat (I'm guessing it already had been, hence the previous vibrations)
I'm going to get both rears replaced tonight as a precaution.

The tyre bulges were probably down to driving with no air in the tyre, they don't like that normally

Re: TreColl's Mondeo ST TDCi
I've worked in a tyre place before and we had a st220 mondeo come in with those same wheels, and they were corroded to high heaven where the bead usually seats. we fitted brand new avons on all four and my god they were hell to balance because of the corrosion and a couple of buckles. customer then had the wheels refurbed properly and rebalanced and the balance was very low so solved that problem as well as air loss.

Re: TreColl's Mondeo ST TDCi
So last week, my new headunit turned up. I went for an Alpine INE-W920R, always been a fan on Alpine stuff. The sat nav software on this is iGO, which is one of my favourites too, so all win!
Take the old headunit;
Take it out; (ignore the dodgy wiring - it's remains from the parrot kit that was twisted and taped! Crimped underneath the new tape!)
Fit the fascia adapter kit, and realise it's not quite a good fit. But oh well!
After then going "Bugger! Alpine don't actually supply a double din sized cage with their double din head units" and franticly ordering a new universal cage!
The new unit goes in and asks what language you use
When the sat nav receiver gets signal, it warns you about en route traffic! Awesome!
I had a headlight bulb blow on Friday, so bought the only H7 bulbs in stock at the Halfords I went to. Their own "All weather upgrade".
I have to start by saying the MK3 mondeos have the easiest headlights to remove;
Remove the front grill by twisting two clips, one on each headlamp unit.
Remove two rods that hold the headlamp unit in place
Disconnect wiring.
Anyway, I'm not impressed with these bulbs! They are very yellow!!
(new on N/S, old on O/S)
Here is the old one shining against my jeans....
and here is the new....
Can't be bothered to replace them though, but will do at some point I suppose!

How are you finding the all weather bulbs? I take it they're your dipped beam? Did you buy them retail or with a trade card?

The lower the color temperature the more you'll see, hence why the all weather bulbs are yellowy. I have 3000k halogen bulbs in the fiesta and can see loads. So much better than 6000k hids even.

Yeah, I can see loads, not happy with them though, will change them after the weather gets better! Was retail as I don't have a trade card. Yeah dipped beam.
Some idiot drove into the back of me (2 impacts) in stop start traffic this morning! This is all mine has, but his MK6 golf needs bonnet, headlights, front grill, front bumper and a radiator! Gutted!

Ah no, that's a bum
Is it just the colour of the bulbs you dislike? Do they look yellow when switched off, i.e. the reflections inside the headlight?

They don't look yellow.
Yes, it's the colour. For example, silver wheels on cars look yellow and I'm actually finding it slightly distracting!

if his car needs that much repair I would say get that rear bumper off asap and check out the reinforcement bar and the rear panel too as they both could be damaged

Re: TreColl's Mondeo ST TDCi
Not happy with the repairs that have been done, the alignment is off and there are a couple of marks in the fresh paintwork!
It was supposed to go back this week, but the insurance company are arguing that this damage isn't anything to do with the accident, so refuse to provide a courtesy car!! The Avensis went back on Thursday night so I've been using this since.
Friday night, in the dark, I changed those horrible yellow bulbs out!

And a comparison on my jeans again
The very original
The Halfords bulbs
The MTEC Cosmos bulbs

Re: TreColl's Mondeo ST TDCi
thats insurance companies for you, i'm in the bodyshop/accident repair centre trade and most insurance companies are now switching to fixed costs which means the bodyshops do repairs on the cheap and don't give a crap about anything nowadays. I hated that when I was in one bodyshop like that but now i'm working in a prestige one, everything is done properly which is better!

She came home last night (again) this time with a perfect arse!
Got treated to a flat tyre this morning though :blub:
They've not been very good at holding pressure as they are so corroded, so that was the last straw and I'm going to Basildon on Saturday to pick up these
Standard Mondeo ST wheels, recently refurbished in "gun metal grey"

I just need to sort the brakes, boost hoses and now the exhaust too! Then I'll probably start loving it again!
Yours an STD too?

Re: TreColl's Mondeo ST TDCi
yeah, its an eSTate ST TDCI. forge hoses, decat, full exhaust, airtec intercooler, k&n filter and a remap, only 185 bhp but my god it feels more with the tourque!!! will also soon be fitting my hybrid turbo, so hopefully closer to 200bhp. Im not after the figures,but the drive will be epic.
after getting back on here, I have also found the love for my rs1800 again, so will be posting updates of that aswell.
