You could do with doing a quick re-write of this matey, here are some terms:
Suspension strut = The upright body which bolts to each corner of the car
Spring = Fits onto the strut
Rear beam = The beam that runs across the back of the car into which your suspension struts bolt
I'm not sure what the spring arm is, or if the problem is that you can't remove the struts from the car or you can't remove the spring from the strut. Have another crack!

That's far clearer
I assumed when you said you'd done the fronts okay that you had spring compressors...so what's the difference between the rears and the fronts? What exactly is it you can't do? If you've compressed the spring okay so it's loose on the damper shaft it should just be the top cup preventing the spring from being removed.
Just in case you didn't know, it's extremely important that you compress the spring enough for it to be a loose fit on the strut, otherwise you could injure yourself by removing the top retaining cup if the spring is still under compression by the cup itself.

You don't need spring compressors, just sit on it. If you're small, eat some more.
Those that can, do; and those that can't, talk about it.

Yep, you need there to be no force acting on the top cup. If there is still any upward force from the spring; (a) It will be hard to undo the top retaining bolts and (b) if/when you do manage to remove the bolt, the cup will shoot off. Your teeth are kept in your head, which will no doubt be close to your hands, and the image of shattered teeth is a nasty one!!!
