TTF Si 2.0 - WOAH! An update! - 29/08/2014
Re: TTF Si 2.0 - Smashed windscreen, yay... - 28/07/2012
Well this just happened...
Funny story actually! Basically there was a load of annoying little flies on the windscreen while I was sitting on the inside of the car... I banged it to get them off aaaaaaaaaaand thats when it cracked.
Although you can't see it, it goes all the way down to the wiper too.
I'm mega pissed off at the moment.

Been eating spinach or something Danny? Bad times though
More importantly, did the fly survive?

I'm pretty sure mine has a slight green tint to it, I can see it in the cracks in the glass when the sun gets on it... I will take a closer inspection though.

shouldnt, probably natural glass colour perhaps
always remember looking at the A pillar, and the difference between the door glass and windscreen is quite obvious

There are green tint screens. The non tint version is much rarer as was only fitted to the Popular, Popular Plus, 'L' etc.
Danny I have a near enough brand new green tint screen and rubber you can have, but you're miles from me sadly.

Yeah just a tap I'm the hulk
Yep it sure does! Thats one thing that has annoyed me - being an original windscreen and all that - same with all the other windows apart from the popouts, but I still have the original number plate etched windows in the garage.
It's getting replaced with a heated screen so I guess thats a bonus!

Re: TTF Si 2.0 - Windscreen replaced with heated one- 07/08/2012
Soooooooo, as you may have seen the windscreen lost a battle with myself
I went to Southampton to get another one as it was the closest one I could lay my hands on, plus, it's heated which is always a bonus! It came with the loom and what not too, but its from a mk3, which means I need to either get a mk3.5 loom or chop into the loom somewhere else and wire it in. For now I have left it so I dont piss anything else up just before ford fair
Anyway, this is the screen. It came with a boy racer sun strip - which was on there because it was a track car project.
Then I had to remove the old one. That was fudgekin hilarous! As I was breaking the seal nice and gently with a screwdriver it decided to crack on the other corner
Started with the one original crack...
And then it cracked on the other corner...
Aaaand then it ended up like this ....
Side by side:
No windscreen oooo...
Then I laid the new screen on to see what it would look like with the sun strip...
Then fitted it and removed the sun strip:
Made a random video of the cracks getting bigger and bigger while breaking the seal too
The reference about getting a professional to do it was about if you wanted to put the screen back in, because how people manage not to break it is a mystery after my attempt of removing it

As Excursion said its not difficult you just got to take your time and not use a screwdriver. Start in the midddle at the top and gently prize the seal and tuck it outside TAKING YOUR TIME. I used a butter knife and bent the end of it and just slid it along the seal

Re: TTF Si 2.0 - 1x f**cked coilover! - 07/11/2012
Long time no update! Nothing much has happened over the last few months, its been washed numerious times...
Had random instagram style pics:
Aaaaaand the splitter got ripped off:
Random picture of its bum:
Random pano picture of the inside:
Anyway, moving on to the main update of today...
Right.. as per new title, I have 1x f**cked coilover! Yay...
Today was going smoothly... Whipped off the gearbox cradle to change the gearbox mounts and also did a general check under the car cleaning it of any dirt ect.
Then I moved onto lubing up a squeeky poly bush on the suspension top mount. Off it came with no problem at all as you can imagine, then upon doing up the strut top bolt, it went snap! The whole thread has snapped off from the coilover. Totally f**ked off to say the least.
Literally cannot be bothered with the car at the moment, it can stay in the garage for as long as I care.
But... I might possibly have a plan. I will see how well it works but I can't guarantee anything... The plan is to somehow weld the thread back on, either with mig or tig. I will examine it all once it's been completely stripped down to see if it is possible without causing any other problems.
The one problem I will have unless I can find a way around it, is that I will have no damping adjustment on the drivers side because the dampening screw snapped off when it went pingggggggggggg.
Pictures - combination of phone and camera:
So yeah, that's f**cked.
Only upside is, it now has some mega stance and insane camber!
This was resting on the jack after a quick stip down of some components:

Neither am I to be completely honest, Mark. I will have to see what can be done when it is all stripped down and in my hands tomorrow or whenever I get around to doing it. Hopefully something can be done for now as a temporary fix, then I will just have to save up for a new unit. I think they are about £100, not sure if that is including or excluding VAT, I imagine excluding.

I wonder if the manufacturer will rebuild yours for a bit less than that? I bet they'd want £100ish though, so back to a new damper - worth a shot, though.

I will give the guys at AVO a quick email or phone call tomorrow to see what the price would be for a rebuild. I know the rears can be rebuilt for as little as £30 each - well that cost is for the replacement of the damper adjustment knobs, so perhaps the front might be around the same price, if not too much more. Either way, I will enquire tomorrow and send them a few pictures to give them an idea of what has happened.

oh crap, thats not good mate lucky it didnt break while driving though.
last time i sent some avos for a rebuild, the fronts were about £50, although thats going to require a complete new piston so it might not be cost effective for a repair, but give them a bell, it might be within the std repair cost?
car looks good in the first pics though mate

TBH I'd be viewing that as a defect. Valves sticking and knobs breaking - fine, that's expexted. But that type of damage calls into question the design and materials used imo.
Nothing to see here...

Jay - Cheers! Hopefully a rebuild price will be around that cost, I will see tomorrow!
Andy - I will see what AVO say tomorrow. I personally would think it's a defect too, I mean, it's not like you are putting mega stresses or force on it doing up the top night. If I was gunning it on or something then fair enough, but with a ratchet doing it hand tight and then nipping it up before it snapping... something isn't quite right. As said, I will see what AVO say about it tomorrow!
