Yeah nothing that can't be sorted though, hopefully lol.

Yeah you could sit the car on the floor no problem if you wanted. I can do it with mine, but then I can't turn the wheels, so being on 13's it'll be stupidly low to the floor if you put them down a lot.

I know :( But it only went together so I could get the car on 4 wheels and be able to move it around in/out the garage.

It'll all probably be taken apart again soon so I can re-paint the shocks and lube up all the threads and do some in arch painting too. I could have done it there and then thinking about it, but I have a few jobs I can do at the same time, so I will kill many birds with one stone.

FoC again, that's amazing. I wonder if they know there was a problem with a certain batch or age of coilover? Slightly cynical view, I know :)

Sup fellow forumers.

What have I done recently, pretty much naff all apart from moan. Well there's a whole load more of that to come!

I got some vibra technic mounts for the gearbox hoping that would be the last of my s**t vibration problems. But nope! They are still there and worse now too :(

Basically going around right hand bends is the worse, you can feel vibrations all through the car, as if there is pressure being put somewhere, like on a bearing or something and it's vibrating in its housing. But I've also noticed it accelerating away hard.

So I'm putting it down to either a bearing, CV joint or the diff in the gearbox. If anyone wants to chuck suggestions at me as to what it could be, go for it.

Anyway, idle vibrations - cannot stand them lol. But the car handles even more like a go kart now, so that's a win lol.

Yeah both front and rear are fine. You can feel something vibrating down towards the passenger side, like the driveshaft or something, and the fact it is now doing it a lot of the time while generally driving because I kinda had a play with a zetec-s earlier doesn't help. It's not even a little vibration either, it's quite mega because the whole car seems to feel it lol.

I will strip a load of stuff down at some point next week and have an inspection, but I will probably put money on it being one of the things mentioned previously - cv joint, bearing or gearbox/diff.

The sooner it's sorted the better because it's driving me nuts now lol.

tbh, considering how low it is, maybe thats causing an issue with something thats perhaps more worn out than before, eg a drop link etc

if you can get it on a 2/4 poster, just drive it on dont jack it up and check to see if anything like the links, drive shaft anything that will move under use/load is near anything solid
drop links sometimes can rib on the lower arms, or a driveshaft on the lower arm, or even the subframe mount??

or even try raising the car to say -60 or even -40 mm to see if its stops

my 2p worth :)

also im sure you have checked this, but is it tracked up right? and all wheel weights in place and correct?
check the tyres for any buldges or flat spots,

slack wheel nuts cause a racket

any odd play int he steering rack, get someone to hold the wheel and try to turn the road wheels whiel theyre jacked to see if theres any play (or use the steering lock :P)

Could be a cv joint. Jack a side up, take the wheel off, let it idle in 5th gear and turn the steering, get someone to check for clicking noises coming from the join.

Drop links are brand new, all the subframe bolts ect are tight, there's no rubbing anywhere or anything touching anything, so that's not causing an issue. It's been low like this for a few years now and this problem has come about since the first set of mounts snapped apart and I ran it for a couple of weeks.

Tracking is all perfect, wheel nuts are tight ect. All wheels recently balanced too.

It's not a silly little problem which causes a bit of vibration or anything, I've checked all the little things it could be weeks ago, checked literally every bolt around the engine and gearbox and all the mounting bolts of various things. It's deffo something drive related.

I'm thinking it could be that too, I'll do that during the week when I begin to strip stuff down and see what the outcome is.

Id lay money on an inner cv jack a side up put a axle stand under it and get someone to drive it ,only 1 wheel will turn and just have a listen to the wheel get your driver to put it in 4/5 th and give it a wee rev youll hear if its a bearing and do the same with the inner side of the driveshaft and see how that goes also when the cars not running give the shaft a stroke and a shake :o :o just to see if theres to much play in it ,the 3 bearing wear on the inner like
If that dont help get your driver to jerk up the clutch and hold the wheel you should feel if the wheels moving to much if it is id check the bottom arms , how old are the arms

The drive shaft doesn't have excessive play in it, it's pretty much the same on both sides, so I ruled that out but it's still staying on the list. Lower arms are pretty much brand new from when I made them camber adjustable not long ago, and all the bushes are fine. I know a lower arm problem, and it's deffo not that lol.

Yeah I'm thinking that as well. Damn cars lol. The mounts are growing on me, as soon as this problem is sorted I bet I will love them even more :)

I know the arms are new, but it would be still worth checking for play. Also check the rear beam bushes for play.

No update as of yet with regards to the CV joint/vibration problem. I will have to have a look next week and try get it sorted. Also while doing that, I will probably attend to the bit of rust that's on the front wing and door, and also other small bits.

I will also be doing more painting/undersealing of arches and stuff because they haven't been done in about 6 months and I like to think I'm OCD with that :D

I also want to space the rear wheels out (more) because they look lost in the arches too. It needs more stance :)

So that's that..

However, I did take a couple of random pictures of the car seeing as I haven't really taken many recently. I honestly miss the splitter, it just looks so boring without it, and really high

So I will get another one of them along with something else I have seen on ebay soon.

Not much of an update really. Just something to whack in here.

The car got dirty the other day so I took a picture of it.

Image

Also, today I got bored and wound the coilovers down more. The twin rear anti-roll bar was touching the floor at this point so it couldn't go anywhere. It looked kinda low. It's back to how it was again now.

Image

Then I painted the drums.

Image

Next thing will be cleaning the arches front and back and coating them in a nice thick coat of paint.
