Re: TTF Si - Small update, Few nice pics :)
Hey guys, about time I did an update on this really huh? lol. Last update was months ago, so this is for everyone who hasnt seen on facebook whats been going on recently.
To be honest, its not alot, but might aswell keep the thread alive!
So, update number one, I got myself a Chrome sparco front strut brace, sure does make a slight difference!
Then I got some Blue Megaleads HT leads from my old work who was a supplier of them. YES I KNOW THE ENGINE IS DIRTY!!! lol. And i was in the process of cleaning out the header tank too, rust coolant pipe makes a mess of the whole system sigh!
Gave the splitter a coat of paint, only satin black.
Changed the lower arms...
Old vs New
Done a crap job at cleaning my car for ford fair. MISSED A BIT!
Got some seat covers at ford fair:
And these at ford fair too... what are they!?
So, i stripped them down, refurbished them and cleaned them up with a bit of paint... few pics!
End result (finger prints, grease ect on them so look mucky lol):
Comparison, original wish spax -40mm spring and coilovers.
Now this is probably a 2 inch speadbump:
Appropriate? lol
OH also, this happened! Rust killed the rear turret and my strut brace.
Done a temporary weld to get it home, its going to get completely re-done soon properly. Its still holding though
Then the car came off the road, no money, no job... became a storage unit, so cleared it out yesterday to prep it for welding on the rear turret again:
1 point for everything you can see hahaha - yes this came out of my car!
Result:
So thats about it! I will have to see if i have any more pics of her on coilovers later, dont think i do.... but yeah its slowly getting there now, she will be back on the road january i hope!!
Danny.

f**k me!
this is going to make toby feel bad, me also i sold my green fez with similar rust repairs done, proves they cant handle coilovers if theyre rusted there
coilovers are nice though, the difference between the two front struts

Re: TTF Si - Update, 14/12/10
still makes me sad. Like i said to you on msn just now, it was or looked like surface rust when i put the coilovers in, and couple of weeks later driving round on the softest setting - which is lovely and smooth btw lol - it decided to go. I was planning on fixing it the following monday anyhow, so its all good in a way. It just beat me to it lol.
Either way, im sure it would have gone, my spax springs was alot firmer than these coilovers tbh.
But its getting completely re-done soon, so it will be indestructable lol.
I'll have to get some more recent and decent pics of her on coilovers soon!

I probably will be yeah Toby I should have alot more done by then - paint on the engine being one, might just make it look new with silver rather than put any colour into it, and some other little bits, not decided yet but we shall see

Looking great Danny. Shame about the rust. Were you driving along then it just crumbled away? Must of shat yourself?!
Glad you put a picture up of the lower arms. I've bought a new pair for my Mk3.5, they look exactly the same. Which is great! Because I thought I bought the wrong ones.
Great work on the coilovers aswell buddy.

Yeah it went as I was driving along, all I heard was a crack and a twang where the spring hit the body and twanged up lol. And the sudden drop was a shock too. Luckily i wasn't too far from home so I got it back in one piece.

It's not the abs model, not unless it's all been taken off lol. It has eleccy windows, no front heated screen, ford alarm and aftermarket, and yeah no passenger airbag, good storage place though I've found lol. Oh and no deadlocks, checked all that when I took the door cards off.
My old 1.3 si replica had everything on it though, would have thought an si would too really lol

If you're getting them re-done I'd advise some kind of strengthening brackets welded to the top of the turret, as they were never designed to take the kind of loads coilovers transmit to the shell.

I'll keep that in mind! Never thought of that I think the action im going to take is to do the same as what you did buy cutting it out and replacing it. Its going to a body shop to get a quote for it being done, should be £50-100 he said, I can weld myself, but not as good as I'd like to on things like this, im used to doing welding on square inch tubing and 5mm thick steal lol. I dont think id be confident properly welding up something as thin as this just yet, i'd probably just put holes in it, maybe not though if the welder is setup prorperly. BUT, to save me fannying around getting all the equipment together, the time and cost doing that it would better me to get it done professionally. Plus, I know its done properly then too
My very quick temp job i did (as you can see) was just to get it home from the now ex-girlfriends house a few miles down the road, its still holding though which is good, and i did drive it about 100 miles after that i think, down all sorts of roads, so it must have been an alright temp fix lol. I wouldnt trust it though, considering i just done loads of little tacks instead of a nice continuous weld like i should have.
Anyway, enough of that, time to find some pics of it at ford fair and post them

Yeah - that's a good idea. Welding panels can be tricky if you've been used to welding thicker sections.

Re: TTF Si - Started spraying bits - 06/01/2011
Hey guys, just a small update and I shall keep these coming hopefully! TTF Si is slowly getting a very good once over before she comes back out onto the road. Basically here is whats going to happen in the next 3-4 weeks.
It's going to get a full service, spark plugs and leads have already been changed, but its going to get oil and filter change, fuel filter change, check the brakes and change anything if necessary - don't think anything needs changing from when I last looked, coolant change, check brake fluid and change if needed. Other things that will be changed that I have ordered are things like anti-roll bar drop links as the bushes on both sides are split, lower arms too as a bush in each one has failed - luckily I can get the replaced free under warranty. New tyres all round, possibly with an alloy wheel refurbish in gloss white - not sure if im going to do this now or later, aux drive belt is to be replaced, cambelt has been done not too long ago, then all other fluid levels checked - power steering be the only other one I think. Thats all I can think for general all round stuff.
Thennnnnnn!
- The whole engine bay itself is going to get a VERY good once over, wether it be cleaned, polished or painted - its the main focus at the moment, everything else is just general stuff really, well thats how I put it.
- All silver engine bay components will be taken off, cleaned up and re-sprayed silver. This includes things like rocker cover, exhaust manifold heat sheild cover, suspension top mounts, maf sensor, throttle body, inlet... ect ect.. You get the idea.
- The same goes to black bits too, not that there is alot of it, just things like engine hooks, coil pack mount, battery tray and other black things, anything plastic and black will be treated and either sprayed or just cleaned up and made shiney with help of back to black spray... maybe even lacquer.
- Then everything else will be thoroughly cleaned - header tank being one as it's FILTHY, all yellow caps, black ones... just everything lol.
- Slowly working my way back, brake calipers will be cleaned up, maybe given another coat of flourecent orange. Might replace the standard ST150 discs with some groved ones, not sure yet, I will see how I feel when I come to it, if I do, I'll be putting some fast road pads on there too.
- Front splitter will be repainted in satin black - done once already before, going to give it a few more coats.
- The whole of the underneith of the car will be checked for rust, cleaned and fixed however necessary, then it's going to get undersealed/painted with hammerite black under body sealant, might even polish the stainless steal exhaust while there lol. While under the car, everything else will be checked and fixed - things like bushes, brake lines ect ect.
- Rear turret... well we all know that rusted through, so thats going to be re-done profesionally, wether it get a whole new turret or a new top or what, I'm not sure, I will discuss it with the body shop when I take it down there in the next couple of weeks.
- 2nd rear anti-roll bar is going to be put on and then given poly bushes like the one already on there - might have sourced one, might not, but I'll get one
- Pop-out rear windows are going to be added - getting from Jon on the Isle of Wight hopefully
- FRST spoiler will be sourced and colour coded to replace my plastic colour coded one as the paint has cracked on it. Again, might be getting from Jon.
- Might paint up my skirts and arches which have been in primer for over 2 years now lol.
- Repaint rear strut-brace.
- Source 1x new poly bush for my one of my coilovers.
- General once over to check and replace anything else needed.
I think thats it, I'm sure I will think of something else later, you always do! So yeah not lots, but just lots of little bits really.
So today, I started on the engine bay clean up and paint process, couple of pics.
I think they came up alright! Going to lots more tomorrow
Thats it for this update, will post more pics as more gets done!

i LOVE that list mate, ima going to copy you on most of the enigne bay sroucing up parts, eg blacks and silvers good idea
might not be painting most of them but a good cleaning deffo, things liek maf, tb and inlet
i still got a 1.8 injector rail to fit (im still using a 1.6 one) so while the inlets off i can clean them bits up
cheers for the motivation mate, ill try and get that car out of the garage to do it all in there

Re: TTF Si - Couple more bits painted - 08/01/2011
Just a small update really.
Got a few more bits painted today and took a few bits off to be painted too. Pics will do the talking!
Be prepared for a shockingly dirty engine bay! You will notice alot of yellowy coloured spray/crap everywhere. That was due to a rusty coolant pipe - the one on top of the exhaust manifold, and it sprayed everywhere, lovely! Thats why the header tank is so skank too! Easily cleaned though
Bits that will be getting cleaned up and painted tonight/tomorrow.
Newly painted bits:
One when I put her to bed:
And the collection of paints/bits to put on

Cheers Phil It says to use primer, but after the extensive research I done, it said most primers peel and its best to just clean the surface of all grease ect and apply directly onto the surface. So Ive done this, but if the paint goes naff on the rocker cover, im just going to get hammerite and use that, because you cannot go wrong with hammerite in my opinion, and ive used it on rocker covers and engines before. But this stuff was cheaper so thought I'd give it a go, Ive got two rocker covers anyway, so can always paint up the 2nd one if needed and yeah, its a high temperature paint.
Anyway, you have lots of chrome bits so you dont need to paint anything

its come up so nice though dude, i used a similar paint on my white fiestas heat sheild it was fine until i pressure washed the engine bay and caught it slightly, and the paint came straight off, so i recommmend cleaning your cars engine bay first before you put all these nicely painted parts on im really considering doing the maf on my si now ive seen how nice yours has come up , and thinking about doing the fan motor
