Tuning a 1.8 XR2I... Whats the next stages?
I've got a 1992 MK3 Ford Fiesta 1.8 XR2I...
I'm interested in what i should improve next, brakes, performance, suspension, transmission...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So far, (everything listed below, is improvement)...
ENGINE
Pipercross Induction Kit,
Decatted with stright through backbox,
Superchip'ed (superchips are a piggyback ecu chip, http://www.superchips.co.uk/),
SUSPENSION
OEM Front strut brace
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thats where i'm at ^ but now i'm stuck. I've heard that putting a 2lt throttle body (it's a stright swap) would derestrict the engine, and also putting kent cams in... Is that a good next step...???
Also by doing that would i notice improvement without changing/remapping the ecu...???
What would be the step after that?
Thanks ..................

Re: Tuning a 1.8 XR2I... Whats the next stages?
Lots of posts on this already bud, so might want to hgave a search
But it really depends on how much you want to spend and where you want to spend the money.
If you're on stock brakes decent discs and pads and braided lines would help with getting the car stopped and a decent set of shocks and springs will get you around corners.
Engine wise if you're going to spend alot on tuning it you may want to swap it for a 2l lump. Its a relatively straight forward conversion and will give you more power and torque and a better base for future mods. The 2l silver tops can now be had for decent money as the ki8t car boys are moving on to duratecs. If you wanted to stick with the 1.8 a set of 130PS cams and an RS1800 manifold would help liven things up a bit.
After that you could go as far as you want funds providing. Going down the n/a route you could fit bike tb's and a mega squirt for around 1k or build a low boost zetec turbo for about the same money.
One cheap option for extra go is stripping as much weight out of the car as possible if you can put up with noise. I run all of my cars stripped down to the bare essentials but I have a high tolerance for lack of refinement
