tuning the 1.6 cvh

alright chaps I'm trying to decide what car to get next and just want something fast.

it cant be too fast as I'll only be 18 so wont be able to afford insurance on something crazy but the RST has taken my fancy.

just wondering what kind of power I can expect if I spend about a grand on the engine (and what things should I spend that grand on lol)

how hard/expensive is it to get hold of a zetec bottom end and make a zvh (and what sort of power gains I would see)? etc.

any suggestions would be great

cheers

at 18 dude, the insurance on even a rst is going to rip you apart unless you go on your mums/dads

If you really want one then join the rs owners club and get insured through boncaster. I'm older but I only pay £338 fully comp with track day cover and unlimited mileage, full business use and all my mods declared

for £1000 you could buy:

Kent cvh34 cam kit £230
K & N 57i £55
Uprated fuel pump £90ish from ebay
Motorsport developments 195 kit (chip, actuator, new injectors) £450
Uprated intercooler £100ish from ebay

Assuming the car was completely standard I would spend the grand on.

New suspension £350
Pad upgrade £60
Stainless exhaust £300
Induction kit £80
165 chip £250

slightly over budget but should make for a nice all round car with enough grunt to be some fun

General rule of thumb for modyfying: make it stop and turn properly before making it go fast.
8 slices, 4 Sandwiches.

yeah I was planning on getting one that was already lowered and stuff but it's hard to find one that hasn't been messed around with with bodykits and stuff.

you know how it is lol, so yeah if it's not had it done then I'll get at least the suspension sorted, maybe the brakes aswell if they aren't up to scratch

If you get a car that's already modified make sure the work has been done properly. Every car I viewed ready modified I walked from as things had been botched. Maybe I was just unlucky though
