Thats interesting.

I assumed you could only tune engines on rolling roads that have electronic injection. i.e. plug a computer in and adjust various things.

Or am I thinking Unichips?

I think with a rolling road u can as u say set up the ECU (fuelling etc)
and check/change the jets in the carb if applicable

where as a krypton tune is for older cars using a timing light
to set it up ie 10 degrees BTDC and sorting out the carb.

cheers phil :D

so Mr Finkle...u reckon getting a krypton tune would do my car best? My previous service history show it last got krypton tuned 4-5 years ago....how often does this need to be done????

Depends on the engine really

for example my mark1 xr2 is a x-flow engine which can only be tuned by
adjusting a pinch bolt on the dizzy to set the timing

where as my xr2i has an ECU so it sorts itself out but can be chipped

But i dont know wether your motor has an ECU or simple ignition module
if u've had it krypton tuned before then there's the answer

I would keep oil changes regular (3k) with the high mileage
and make sure your plugs, leads, dizzy and rotor arm are good
or a tune up will probably be a waste of time
cheers phil

krypton tune is just v.basic check and set up, done at idle. Rolling road will check the timing and fueling in all rpm positions to check for engine retarding/advancing to much, and running too rich or lean, it will pick up any faults in the rev range, or a sensor going out of range and sending fueling out etc etc..

A rolling road tune is the best way of tuning your car, it's the closest to actual road conditions and tuners can see how your car behaves during different circumstances, then adjustments can be made.

A Krypton tune is your car running at idle and does not let a tuner see what happens higher up the rev range, which is obviously not the best.
