Turbo, 1.8 mondy or 2.0 mondy?
Which one? I have over 5k in my bank at the moment and can spend up to about 2500 to 3k. Which shall i get and should i buy parts brand new ie engine and box etc? What probelms would i be looking at when its all in. Car at the moment is a 1.4SI.
I am able to get full turbo running gear inc loom and everything for about 1k. Any good?

You'd be lucky to do it for that yourself as you'd have to pay retail on most of the parts
We give discounts on the parts if we are doing the conversion

snake :u aint gonna get t/b conversion and engine(inc rebuild) for 2.5-3k
Why would a zetec lump with say 50,000 miles with fsh ( avaible from numerous scrap yards etc) require rebuilding in order for it to run reliably on t/b's ??
My car (rs1800) has done 69,000 and ive been looking into getting t/b's for it and there is no way im going to rebuild the bottom end first , there's just no need for it !

urm i am goin on the presumption that the engine is from scrappy and unknown, which is probably what FiestaMental would end up with, if its on the original engine that is known to be good then thats fine.. I wrote that as advise for him...

Urm and so did i in order to save him £600 for a non required rebuild as the way you worded it (ie what ever you get get it rebuilt) could of confused people..
But i agree if the engine is unknown and has no history its best to whip the pistons etc out to check for wear..

Well. thanks for all the advice peeps. Im gonna giev xfactor a call tomorrow. Just tried now but there's no answer on his mobile. I want a turbo mainly for the 'kick' when it comes in and if i do end up getting a turbo lump then i'll obviously shove a 195 chip in it too! I'll speak to my mate tomorrow.
Cheers

195 chips normally = big bang, don't they?
I'd say for the budget you have you could have yourself a nice, powerful n/a 2.0L zetec and put a couple of £ towards the insurance costs too.
You could prolly get an n/a Zetec 2.0 up to a realistic 150-160bhp on custom management, good cams, free-flow exhaust, etc etc, but in order to turbo it you're definitely looking at an awful lot more money unless you DIY it (and do it properly).
That said, how many Zetec Turbos have I built lately? Errm, how about none?

depends on what parts you wish to use.
if you are willign to pay for new pistons (£500+)
then either engine 1.8 or 2.0 will be roughly the same price.
if you go for 2.0 you can aquire some mahle calibra pistons 76mm i think (i got some from a vauxhall tuner for £80)
these are forged and as logn as pistons rings on the engine were good they shouldnt have much wear.
uthen need the con rods and pistons modded to go into the engine and the block itself bored to the correct size. thus giving about 2050 cc i think.
the block also needs loads of other mods as does the head to accept inlet and exhaust manifolds.
its by no means a strap on job
but can be done for under £1000 if your as tight as me and have all the turbo running gear in the first place.

Just had a word mith my mate who works for ford and he's getting in touch with someone who was selling a FRST back-end damage whole car for 450 notes. If he's still selling it then i'll get that off him, have the two cars side-by-side and swap the whole bloody lot over. Got a couple of mechanices to help me too!
Any ideas on how long this process will take as i use my car at the weekends but dont really need to during the week.

Ok he's got me a quote from his mate at his work...ready?....It's £1700 all in including parts and fitting. To me, that sounds pretty good but he'd have to source the gearbox, loom, engine etc.
Advice?

His work is pretty well and he's friend of a friend so he aint gonna do a poo job on it cos he works with him!
I spoke to him today and told him that the parts that he does get are gonna be 2nd hand but i want a BRAND SPANKING NEW engine from Fords. This is about 1k on its own, so instead of getting a fairly good condition RST im gonna get a brand new engine'd, never been used RST which (when run in) should go pretty well with a chip. Not a 195 though as project said earlier, big bang. A 165 will go in.
This whole lot up and running is about £2500. And i reckon thats a wicked price for a (practically brand new car). What do ya think?
BTW, this is gonna happen soon after christmas...watch this space!

Cheers Chum. I didn't ask about the zetec trubo cos thats when it starts getting costly and i dont even wanna start dreaming about that......yet
I asked him about it but he said the bloke's gona away now and the chances are very slim as he had loads of offers though. I'll let ya know though mate.

The other bits and bobs, he's gonna source but as he works for ford, it wont be too hard. He said he could get the lot in a week.
