The differences are that the Fiesta engine has a smaller turbo...a T2 was used in place of a T3...this means that the turbo kicks in a fair bit quicker than the T3 but would run out of push in the top end revs whereas the T3 would keep going stronger than the T2
The management changed from a KE-Jetronic system to a management with full EFI (electronic fuel injection)
The ignition setting is different and the plugs were changed.
The tuning potential for the FRST lump is sumwhat restricted compared to the ERST lump because of the injectors.....however, this can be easily over come by putting bigger injectors in
I aint too sure about the costs but i know it will cost u a fair bit...especially to do the conversion properly. Im gonna be doing this conversion on an Escort Combi very soon but will be using a FRST lump just [ERRR] of the fact that i know someone selling one (if he still sells it to me that is!). Dont forget though, u'll have to change MANY other parts of the car as well so it will be able to cope with the extra power! e.g, brakes, gearbox, suspension, bushes, suspension etc etc....u might be better of buying a turbo in the first place...u can pick them up for about £1500-2000 these days!

The FRST engine is newer (they were introduced around the same time the ERST engine was phased out) and use the EFi system instead of the ERST's KE-Jetronic ignition system. FRSTs have slightly better BHP and economy as a result. Also, the T2 tubby used by the FRST spins up earlier, as opposed to the ERST's T3, which will also cause quite a lot of space problems when you come to squeeze it into the engine bay (although it's not impossible, just an embuggerance).
Also, the FRST engine's coolant pipes, radiator mounts, header tank, air box and turbo are all capable of dropping into the Fiesta's engine bay much more easily, although you'll still undoubtedly have some trouble fitting it in.

easier to lower the car shell ova the engine and g/box.
if i followed the haynes manual step by step i would hav had to remove my seats to run my RCA cables down my car.

i dun't really wanna buy a new car...i've just spent a fair bit on stuff 4 mine and have already made some irreversable changes which if left will mean i get bugger all 4 mine! i would like to buy a frst but if it'll cost as much as the transplant, i'd rather do that i tink. how much i lookin at first 2 buy a frst lump and various bit n bobs and then second 4 some1 to shove it all in 4 me (just the engine..stuff such as brakes, suspension i a capable of, but engines stetch my limits 2 far!)

it will also be more expensive to insure than a standard FRST [ERRR] of the transplant, I did a engine transplant (though not a FRST) and regret it so much as it cost so much more than I expected, so much stuff has to be changed ECU ect which I have not done yet as I cant afford it at the mo! I would seriously think about buying an FRST to begin with.
