Turbo options on my xr2tt, advice needed on page 2.
Hi,
at the moment i'm using a T25 on my TT, but they are tooooo laggy, due to the design, (i mean 15 psi @ 3500 rpm), and it seems to be a issue on all TT T25's, as i've tuned a few now from std spec to 200 bhp and all have similar Boost/rpm. also the TT ex mani is being restrictive above 180 bhp, and stops power @ 195 -200 bhp on my spec.
and i've even tuned a T3 TT xr2, and that was 600 rpm less laggy. But the problem is i haven't got the space to fit a T3, a my Rad and inter setup cant be move'd forward, and nor do i want to.
So i've been offered a T2, fully rebuilt to stg1 spec with 360 bearing.
What BHP can this make @ what boost?
And also what power is the Std FRST ex mani good for, as thinkin of trying a pulser T28 on one,
my T25 is rated to 240bhp by universal turbo's, and will hit and hold 23 psi to 6500 rpm, and would do more if i changed the actuator.
Cheers Danny

About 12psi. Much more than this and the turbo will object. TBH I would stick a T3 on. It really isn't laggy as long as you stick to the .36 exhaust housing.

i've tuned a xr2 t, similar spec as mine, but T3, and that was about 600 rpm less laggy than my T25,
But i cant fit a T3 with my Rad and intercooler set up, So looking at other idea's.

id like to see pics when done
id also say, 15psi on a T2 turbo, as for bhp, hmm, not too sure on that, you dont see many (if any) big power FRST running a T2

Just as guide my FRST was fully rebuilt including new turbo, by us around 3 - 4 years ago to standard specification, however in the last year or so i have started to get some more power out of it, still with the standard T2, its running 12psi and is 185bhp.

I believe this refurs to the airflow rating of the exhaust housing, some one please correct if im a wrongun

1. You are a wrongun, regardless of your knowledge.
2. Yes, it effectively dictates the characteristics of the volumetric flow rate of the exhaust housing. A smaller A/R ratio will lead to a faster spool up but lower maximum volumetric flow rate, and a larger A/R will increase lag time but mean less backpressure at the top end.

this is why i think sometimes you should explain simply james for people like me.....
i think black2 what he is trying to say is basically IMO i think the air has more room to spool/holds more air the bigger the housing therefore the smaller the housing the quicker the spool ie smaller housing = less lag
but smaller housings can reduce your max bhp tho ie my cossie .48 housing will not flow as much bhp as it will on a .63 housing
i may be wrong but thats basically how i see it but i am poo at explaining

So i take it, No one's tried to push their limits with a T2/mani.

No point really as the T2 just can't deliver the goods. When the T3 is so readily available and proven most people won't throw pots of cash trying to make something work

i see your point,
but i would of thought some one would of done.
the other option, has no one tried a different turbo on the FRST mani?

Have heard one of the Nissan turbo's can be made to fit but didn't pay enough attention as to which one it was

Just found out the T2 i've been offered is a STG 1 with 360 bearing.

That T2 only has got 360 thrustbearing? Thats only for reliability issues and not for more power.
Never found flowcharts or any other important info about the T2 turbo. Have found about T25 and they really need to spin alot (too high for me 120k+ rpm) to make good flow for 200bhp. Efficiency is crap and because of this ACT's go way too high. If this is for the T25, I assume the T2 is even worse
For the 1.6cvh up to 200bhp the best turbo (on the cheap) for me is the ERST S2 T3 with Trim50 compressor.
0.36 A/R exhaust housing will spool at 3000rpm and the Trim50 gives you good flow for 200bhp with 70% efficiency.
What spec is that pulsar's T28?

not to sure if it's only got a 360 bearing,
But i've decided to not go that route anyway.
i picked up a T28 of a pulser today (brothers got a couple spare)
the exhaust housing and bearing housing is T25, with a T3 comp side.
the exhaust housing is the same as the one on my TT, 0.86 housing.
Dont know of the rest of the spec, but can flow 300-330 bhp on a pulser. @ 1.2-1.4 bar.

Searched a little about this pulsar's std T28 turbo:
Code: TB2804
Compressor: 445436-0001 (Trim 60)
And searched about the T28 turbo from the escort cossie:
Code: TB2807
Compressor: 445436-0012 (Trim 46)
Didnt find any flowchart but beeing the pulsars compressor bigger... go pulsar's T28

i was only gonna go with the T28 if the Frst ex mani had a t25 fitment, but since then i've seen a frst mani, and its different,
and as i strongly believe its the tt ex mani holding me back after 190 bhp.
So i've really got to go T3 mani, and a T3, with a saab 900 exh 0.48 housing.

I really don't know about flanges... only know there is a 4 bolt type (used on the T3 up to T4) and 3 bolt type (used on the T2). Between T2 and T3 don't know what kind of flanges there are
Saab 900 turbo I would say its really not up to the job mate.
Compressor Trim40 is really small... it's even smaller than the ERST one beeing Trim45.
0.48 A/R ex housing would be too laggy for the 1.6 CVH engine, spooling only at 3800rpm or so.

A T25 is a 4 bolt flange, but is m8 bolts, and smaller flange than a T3 flange.
i've advised to use a RST turbo, with the saab ex houseing, as it will fit my car.
and i bet the 0.48 housing will be less laggy than my .86 housing i'm using at the mo.
How much power can be done with a std rst turbo with a 360 bearing?
