turbo or supercharger???

Postby 2.0zetec on Mon Nov 02, 2009 3:11 pm

hi guys just thought i'd get some input i know the zt is a tried n tested method of boosting the zetec but was wondering about superchargers and the pro's and con's of each system so heres a few questions;

supercharging-

would i still need to lower c.r and by how much?

would i need new mangement or would the zetec one work?

obviously i will need more fueling so which injectors?

basically i think i would need to pretty much build do a whole z.t build but without messing with the exhaust?

also i'm not to worried about fabrications/wiring as this is all going in a 205 gti shell that i'm sick of doing head gaskets on :oooh:

thanks guys

If you could find a supercharger kit thats still being sold I'd be very itnerested to know!! Can't find any at the moment myself!!

If your going to make your own kit then in my opinion it would be best to get standalone management but apparently it can be done on standard management

compression ratio doesnt necessarily need to be lowered if running under about 7psi boost

If I was going to do this I'd just get a bog standard zetec and stick that in first to get the engine sorted. Then buy a suoercharger kit and bolt it on as you wont really need to change that much and u'd definitely know there was nothing wrong with ur pre-install

Either that or do the ZT conversion but thats a lot more work!!

All this is my opinion however and Im sure someone will have a better idea of the answers

well i'm planning to do a diy conversion prob using a charger from a merc slk 200/230 kompressor i was thinking management as surely it will be boosting over the 1 bar atmosphere so it'll need a MAP sensor, the advantage being no exhaust mods or charge temp issues?
Does anyone know the "crush down" thickness of the triple layer ford head gaskets as i may use 2 just to lower the c.r a bit but need the thickness to calculate this ?
