I expect you would be looking at a couple of grand. Im no expert on the subject, but its really not worth the money and hassle when you could use the 2ltr.

For around the £2,500 mark you can get it up to maybe 160bhp turbocharged.

For an extra £250 you can do the same work to an 1800 or 2.0 engine and get yourself up to the 250bhp mark (and a lot more torque).

Think about it...

I'd like to know about this too, how would it be done? As myk3 said, I know its more cost effective and would be more powerful if a 2ltr was fitted, but this is just out of curiosity.

Will a turbocharged Si engine be cheaper than a FRST engine ?

Yes since the insurance comes from the car the engine was originally in

i.e. if you transplanted a Fiesta RS Turbo engine into your Si it would jump from it's current group of 8/9 to 15

But if you stuck in a Mondeo 2.0 engine it would only be group 9 since thats all the Mondeo 2.0 is.

Makes a lot of sense to go the Mondeo 2.0L route. Cheap, fast, reliable, cheap insurance and likely quicker than a standard FRST.
FRST's really arent worth the hassle these days in terms of reliability unless you can gurantee a mint engine nor is turbocharing a 1.6si engine which has almost no tuning poential and will probably suffer from unreliability as well as having a non-standard car which most garages may not even work on.

iv spoken to some geezers at graham goode racing and at turbo technics and they say its possible to slap on a light pressure turbo running at around 2-3 psi and at that low a pressure it would not be needed to change pistons etc. not bad since they quoted around 500 quid all in for parts and fitting. estimated power hike was 15-20bhp. not much but u still get reliability, economy of fuel and the whoosh of the dump valve. :o
