Tv/Surround sound BUFFS
Right. Its like this, Ive got a new 46" Sharp Quattro LED tv. And a sony DAVs 880 5.1 surround sound.
When i play an old dvd with dolby 2.0 on the back, it only play through the front and side speakers of the surround sound system. Is this because im not playing a 5.1 enhanced dvd??
Ive also got a Toslink fibre optic cable, going from the dvd player to the tv, so i can listen to normal tv in surround...However, this only plays also through the front spaekers. When i play a CD the sound emmits from all 5.1 speakers and sounds the bollox.
Can a terrestrial tv show be played in full 5.1 through a Toslink fibre cable or are the TV shows etc not enhanced enough and are only broadcast in 2.0???
Any help appreciated, before i put my foot through summink!!!

Terrestrial TV (analogue) only transmits in Nicam stereo, and so does Freeview I believe. Virgin Media and Sky both have channels that will output 5.1.
Its likely theres a setting for Pro Logic II which should upmix the stereo content and chuck it out of all your speakers. Take a look in the settings menu of your surround unit

As above, if you have a stereo source you'll have to put the amp into stereo or four-speaker mode to get the audio coming out all the speakers. 5.1 and 7.1 sources should play fine.
Nothing to see here...
