Postby BlueFiesta85 on Thu Dec 01, 2005 10:48 pm

Hi there,
New to this forum. could anyone tell me what the acceleration aspect is like with twin 40's, stage two mfi head, 1.6 xr2i bottom and standard xr2i cam? What kind of bhp figures are we looking at also?

About 125 to 130BHP if your carbs are setup correctly. I assume you’re a mk3 fez owner, if so you should expect the late sevens to sixty.

Ok sounds good but the only problem is that there not running like that and ive had them tuned up aswell on a rolling road. The revs build up very slow as if it was on a single carb and the car just doent shift the way it supposed to. What could be the problem.

I had this problem.

Turns out the timing was out, due to a monkey in a previous garage not knowing what he was doing, and a air leak.

You should also get the carbs serviced, AND re-jetted. My car absolutley flew until I blew the rad apart last night and snapped a jet.

Who set the timing, was it done in the garage? Have you checked for any airleaks?

Mine ran like a dog until a chap had a play with it yesterday. You should get the carbs rejetted as well, to suit the correct fuel flow.

What sort of fuelling system are you using? A facet pump?

Yes mate im using a facet fuel pump silver edition one. the timing was done by myself matched the notched up on the tdc and the bdc. However the jets were changed at redline tunning on a rolling road. Ive taken it there twice now and he goes its running fine but its not because like you said it runs very weak. A standard saxo 1.4 was quicker :x

BadgerBoy do you know if the starter device on the back of the carbs needs to be connected because my ones are not (Starter device - choke levers at the back of the carbs)

Get someone to look at the timing, might be an idea to take it elsewhere for a second opinion.

Wouldn't know, just find someone who can use a timing light!

As for the chokes, it might be an idea as it'll help with cold starting loads.
