Twin Carbs Or Throttle Bodies?

Postby Percy! on Mon Jul 19, 2004 1:28 pm

I have a 2.0 and was wondering which would be the best way to go?

Which would give the best power gain?

How much would it cost each way?

Which would sound best?

Effects on fuel consumption either way?

Basically what would be best?

I have piper cams, mongoose exhaust and a k&n induction kit for the minute. I do plan a remap aswell but I should get everyhting done before I do that.

Thanks

1800 inc VAT, ex labour for throttle bodies, for around 165-170bhp, and around 20mpg...

Doubt if you'd make an emissions test work with carbs...

Apprantly if i turn the carbs down i would get away with the mot, but it wouldn't run very well at all.

Yeah carbs doesn't seem like a good option really.

Just playing with another idea too.

Either way I will be making it faster!

Percy! :Which would give the best power gain?

TB's. But it depends how good is the ecu you use with TB's and how good is the mapping session.
Ignition is another story. You need a ecu for ignition if you use carbs. It depends also how good is the mapping session.

How much would it cost each way?

Carbs are way cheaper than a good setup of TB's. You can buy a pair of used DCOE 40 or 45 of ebay. Have them rejected for your engine and trumpet fine tuned.

Which would sound best?

Using TB's is just Class!!! Only knowing this would make the ladies smile. ;)
Both would give a grunt sound on WOT.

Effects on fuel consumption either way?

Once you put your foot down, dont look to the fuel gauge.
If you want the car to pull faster, it needs to consume fuel...

On light throttle opening, you can fine tune the ecu to fuel economy. No one wants 10mpg when cruising on sunday.
TB's can consume less fuel if maped for it. Usually tunners just fine tune the ign/inj maps at WOT. They only work for power numbers and at low rpm they just dont care.

Basically what would be best?

If you can afford, go for TB's.

I have piper cams, mongoose exhaust and a k&n induction kit for the minute. I do plan a remap aswell but I should get everyhting done before I do that.

Thanks

Also, with TB's the lumpy idle that some wilder cams tend to make usually go away or gets less lumpy.

If you want a set of Jenveys let me know as I'm a Jenvey dealer, we can also fit them and install mgmt to run the car on them.

Jenveys short 91mm TB's £490
Short Inlet manifold £125
Fuel regulator £80
You will also need injectors, cossie ones can be used but resistors are needed with these on omex mgmt, I can check to see if Ford zetec mgmt can run the injuectors for you on unichip.
An ITG specially made filter or similar due to the lack of space in the fiesta.
Trumpets are seperate also

A complet kit which includes an OMex ECU, wiring harness, throttle cable etc is available for about £2k RRP but I can probably knock that down quite a bit by sourcing bits from my suppliers.

Cors the engine from my car is for sale complete with omex mgmt for £2600

Hi,

How much would it be including fitting and mapping if I souce TBs, filter and injectors myself?

And does your "2k RRP" include fuel rail?

Thanks.

£2k includes everything you need to put TB's on your car and make them work.
