Unleaded head help needed !!!

Postby Frst123 on Sun Dec 01, 2013 6:58 pm

Just bought a head and cam off of here and I assumed it was unleaded as it was on a big spec fiesta rs turbo but when i got it, its smooth it doesnt have the cross-hatching lines on it. So is their a way of telling if it has hardened valve seats by looking at it ? With the cam in ?

Cheers

Don't the crosshatch heads only have bigger valves ??
And are also the ones to port as they are thicker casting ,just something I seem to remember being told

any cvh head after 1985 will be unleaded..every efi head will be unleaded :) cross hatch heads are only 'meant' to have a thicker casting so you can fit bigger valves than anyone other head..if its a efi head your fine :)

Agreed to Jon.Ford did the job for us.I also run it on unleaded since 2009,and the previous owner did it too for many years without problem.Only problem you may face,is on hot days,if you rag it all day it may detonate a bit, since unleaded fuel is more prone to detonation due to lead absence.Especially not good quality fuels tend to detonate easier.Other than that....no problem.Even cfi heads can burn unleaded,we have a sierra 1.6 cvh cfi which runs on unleaded from factory.
