Update from MSD ... *\/* IT'S BACK!!! *\/*
I've lasted till now without calling, but three days gone and no word, I had to call. He's only just got started with it today, as he had some other things turn up yesterday etc. He didn't have a great deal to say, though he did mention that having two fans sucking through the intercooler probably won't be enough to cool the water well enough. Thanks for that Radtec I followed their suggestion thinking they would be a reliable, tested source of information, but Kenny certainly has his doubts. For now (or at least once I've got the car back) I'll move one fan to the front of the radiator and reverse its polarity, and hopefully that'll be enough.
He was just writing a base map for it today, so I think things will really get on the move tomorrow. I want hourly updates!

I want hourly updates!
I know that feeling, i'd love to known what has happened every half day when something major like mapping is going on.
Thanks

They're 70 miles away
Oh he also asked what "the spliced in earths all over the engine bay" were for. Then it came to me that I had to give the lower CTS in the stat housing its own earth, and did the same to the upper CTS. Bit of an exaggeration I thought!

Whoo! Good stuff Heeshee Shame about the radiator, but at least it's good that you now know. Keep us informed!
My name is Alex. I used to have a Capri. I don't anymore. But I'm still called Capri.

Yeah I'm glad I know so can get planning before I get the car back.
Update 2
Kenny just rang to say the MAP sensor's jiggered, which explains the crappy idle and inability to accept boost Very glad I know, and that my confidence in their ability to dig these things out has been backed up with results! The sensor is 160-170 quid from Ford, so I've said I'll look for a second hand one on here and call back tomorrow lunch time. He has a test one he can map the car with, but I can't use his test sensor.
So, if anyone has a FRST OFAC MAP sensor that's known to work, please let me know ASAP!!

post a pic up of the intercooler without bumper, thought radtech cores were ok and air can flow through them?

Radtec coolers must be pretty free-flowing between the fins but still, I thoroughly agree with what Kenny's saying. Blowing air from a distance isn't the same as forcing it through the radiator cores, but I assumed Radtec had tested them and found this setup to work. I guess I'll just have to wait and see

looks fine to me mine were the same if not worse and never had any probs. the coolers only covering half the rad. but r those fans as good as one frst fan? also the closer the cooler sits to the rad the better.

They're SPAL ones - I can't remember the figures but one of those is better than a standard FRST fan.
I didn't bother mounting mine to the intercooler - I managed to get mine to fit between the rad and intercooler, so it blows through the rad (it really works as well as it blows a gale through the engine bay too ).
Cheers,
Andy

Not sure about this one, I can't reconcile the disconnection of the CTS curing it with a faulty MAP sensor causing the problem. Guess we'll have to see what happens eh?heeman10 :Kenny just rang to say the MAP sensor's jiggered, which explains the crappy idle

Update 3
Kenny rang again just now (7:15pm!) to say we have a more major problem. Not major, but certainly more major. My actuator's no good. One stud was sheared off when I got it, and that, combined with my custom bracket not quite lining up (as I mentioned in my conversion thread, because we had to guess what position the compressor housing was in relative to the engine bay) means that boost cannot be adjusted or maintained accurately. So he rang to get the green light from me to have an actuator made up, along with a custom actuator rod with a kink in that will allow linear actuation of the wastegate rather than the angled-setup it has now. I knew this was going to be an expensive week. I think I should stop buying video cameras and headlight protectors etc!!
Gav - As Mandy says, they're Spal fans, and they have very respectable flow rates. The doubts come because they're not mounted on the radiator, they're blowing air at it rather than forcing it through. I'll just have to see how he gets on. It's a big rad, and I didn't anticipate any problems as people said all along I was going OTT by having such a big rad made!
andy - Like I say, I'll mount one on the radiator and leave on on the cooler when I get the car back, should be fine then. They certainly do blow a gale!!!
StreetDragster - I might have to fall back on you there, thanks for the offer Yours can certainly be a back-up till I get a replacement if it comes to that. You'd rather loan that sell?
Rawli - You go girl!
Richard - Is yours mounted on the cooler or the rad? I suspect it's on the rad....

Indeed dude, we'll just have to see what happens. He says it idled properly with his MAP sensor on it though. He's the man that can, so I'll leave it in his capable hands.

Yep, loan only i'm afraid, loom, ecu and sensors all go with the engine
Thanks

Mm it's never nice when things aren't working as they should, but I've got to be happy that they're being sussed out and sorted. It shows that MSD aren't ones to settle for second best, so we should get on well! Just on a crazy net-wide search for an OFAC MAP sensor as I only have till tomorrow lunchtime to find one, otherwise I'll have to buy brand new probably. Naaaaaasty 170 quid setback As if all the injectors, mapping costs and actuator weren't enough!

Yeah, I'm meant to be collecting it, all mapped up and completed in four days, meaning he only has three days to work on it starting tomorrow. Let's hope there isn't too much else that goes wrong

And the search is off! I thought it might be worth trying ccMods as he's been breaking a FRST, but I didn't know if it was an OFAC or OFAB car. Turns out it's OFAC and he's very kindly posting the sensor off to MSD rapido-style tomorrow Saved my ass big time, huge thanks for that Dan May the mapping continue!!

from what i have heard, your car is in the very best hands and like you said before its reassuring to know that they'll find anything wrong with it.
do me a favour though and pm the price they qouted for the live map ( roughly )
considering having mine done in a few months
cheers buddy

Good stuff, Ill look out for big red writing with the next updates as i dont want to read everything
Dont know much about fans and the like but if you can move one or both of your fans onto the rad im sure that would be better as water cooling is undoubtedly more important than ACT's!

budweis - I'd PM you if I knew how much it was going to cost! Their site says 500-600 for basic live map prices, but I'm expecting the bill to be bigger than that at the end of this week, due to the odd bit of fault finding and custom fabricating going on. Hopefully there shouldn't be too many faults to come.
Max - I didn't put the fans on the intercooler to help ACT's, they're just there out of physical convenience. If I can squeeze one onto the rad I will, but space is at a premium in that area of the car in particular. Naturally, I'll see what can be done when it's back in my hands. Either way, the fans aren't on the cooler to cool the charge down, they're there to give the radiator it's air.

bud-weis :change in circumstances means i probably won't be having mine live mapped now.
Why? Is it not allowed to be driven

Seem to remember someone saying the standard fan setup rocked!... oh yeah it was me!
Had the same problem with the s**t kenlowes.
As an example of how good you fan is:- after taking the car for a rag when the fan comes on lift the bonnet and you should be able to feel crazy heat blowing out from the engine bay. When I had the Kenlowes you couldn't despite having two of them blowing, they just seems to make noise lol.
Not sure what your fans where like but I do remember that when I first got the Kenlowes I couldn't even feel which way they where blowing!!..not a good sign.
On the plus side at least all your problems are being discovered and sorted.. no ones perfect. I remember Ahmed discovering loads of little little problems when it was first live mapped. I had to take mine away and bring it back as the charge cooler had the tinest hair line crack causing the smallest boost leak
Good luck with the rest of the work
