Using zetec gearbox on diesel engine?

Would using a 1.6 zetec gearbox on a Turbo Diesel engine make much different to anything? Its just that its the only box laying around to use at the moment, and wasnt sure if it would work well with the diesel engine or not?

any idea?

the ratios will be too short for it so fuel economy and also top speed in each gear may suffer slightly

But wouldnt suffer too much? might just stick it on until I get a proper deisel box for it I guess
