v6 mondeo brake conversion

Postby 2_litre_zetec_si on Thu Dec 11, 2003 6:25 pm

I was just wondering what would be involved in fitting a v6 front brake set-up to my fiesta si 1.6. I have already bought the callipers disks pads and hoses and know that there needs to be a couple of modifications to make them fit (ie, machining the carriers slightly?). Also, i just noticed that there are 2 different sizes of pads for the v6 callipers, and the ones that came out of the callipers i have bought do not cover the entire width of the 278mm disks i have...........i'm VERY confused! any solutions to the problems would be great.

Hi mate

You could actually help me by taking a picture of those brake pads. I have some pads with my Mondeo V6 calipers, but when I ordered EBC Greenstuff pads to replace them, the greenstuff pads were compleatly different.

To answer your question, yes you need to have the calipers machined to fit straight on. Then you need to drill the holes on the carrier to the bigger size of the Mondeo bolts, and reduce the length of the bolts nuts slightly
Do this and they will fit right on with 278mm discs.

If you need details on the machined calipers then speak to gadget, as I bought mine off him pre-done.

Cheers

Belive that the hub needs to be drilled out to fit M12 and 2mm needs to be machined off the hub face of the carrier.

The cossie conversion is much easier.

Ok, i understand that 2mm needs to be machined off the carrier. I dont exactly know what you mean by drilling the holes in my hub out (from 10 to 12 mm diameter?). Would the holes need to then be re-tapped for bigger bolts? Are you talking about drilling out 4 holes on each hub? Anyone got pictures or something? OR are you just talking about drilling out the 2 holes each side to accomodate the bigger mondeo bolts for the carriers? :-?

Give Tony a call at Pumaspeed - he'll answer any questions you've got about the Mondy conversion http://www.pumaspeed.co.uk - his number's on the site.

Thanks for your imput guys. Think i'm just going to put everything back and just buy the cossie spec. brake kit from Puma Speed instead at £299. Its just too much hassle for my liking - all this machining and drilling! and of course, everything will be as new unlike my callipers which are 4 years old and haven't been re-conditioned.
