Vauxhall VX220 v's FRST
ok, thought id put this up to see whats what like.
i had a little go with a vx220 the other day, not from a standing start but from about 25mph to about 75 mph and to my suprise it didnt reel me in at all. my motor isnt standard but it aint got chip plugged in at the minuit either. i must be running all of 8 or 9 psi maximum.
i was quite pleased with me lil ole feista for holding its own but lets face it, the vx220 woulda done me sooner or later and probably slaughtered me from standing start being mid engine rwd.
bet it made the vx220 driver think though eh
so whats the spec on these? anyone know? cheers dudes

afaik andy, the vx has a 2.2 engine with about 150bhp ish????
the listings for 0>60 is about 5.6secs but the all important figure would be the 0>100 but i dont know that, id guess @ 12secs???
but overall mate i would say you did good to keep the angry chipmunk at bay

I reckon it may be a close match with the old vauxhall, but the 0-60 time is pretty god damn good and is better than a standard frst. I tuned turbo would rinse it though. Someone will have to do a proper race and tell us what happens.

VX220`s r sh!t
quoting AutoCar April 2002 edition,
well i can do 100 in my 1.1 fiesta and i have done well over 140 im my parents 1.8 heavy old toyota carina E.
so what the fcuk is the problem with this 2.2 turbo? other than looking as nice as a nova and at a price of 24,995 it aint suprising they only sold 450 in the whole of 2001!
All figures are manufaturer`s claims
0-60 6.1sec
top speed 119bhp
engine 4 cyls 2198cc turbo
145bhp @5800rpm
150lb ft @4000rpm
well i can do 100 in my 1.1 fiesta and i have done well over 140 im my parents 1.8 heavy old toyota carina E.

right then im now going to lay down the law!
1. if a 94 1.8 toyata can do 140+ then a brand new 25k 2.2 turbo that can only do 120 is a bit silly!
2. the VX220 looks as nice as the old bids butt after shes been in the bath for 5 hrs.
right now to set "MUZZA" straight, if its not a turbo then tell vauxall cos they seem to think it is seeing as this is the information the released to "AUTOCAR MAGAZINE" and as if u say the VX220 has the same engine as the Astra SRI then it is a turbo, that is unless Vauxall have been telling a lot of porkies. as in the very same magazine there is an article about the new 150 mph astra SRI and the yet unseen GSI due for release in the autumn!
and before people complain about me getting arsy im not at all mearly stating the facts in a firm manna

The reason it is slow is cos it aint a turbo. So the stats are only mildly good, but maybe it's a well close ratio box for a quick 0-60, which u gotta admit it aint slow off the mark. But it is uglier than a nova

Well the onld sckool 2 litre turbo engine in the cavs etc was about 200 break as standard and was a lot higher than the engine in the vx thing so who knows what vauxhall are playing at if it is a turbo, but my mates a vauxhall mechanic and i could have sworn he told me it was na. Anyway who cares it's only a s**t car at the end of the day.

It is not turbocharged
The astra has a turbo'd varient, but it isnt 2.2
To quote from vauxhall:
now i cant see anything hinting that the car is turbo'd, can you?
So autocar can kiss my dick
and while i'm here. The astra SRi come in 3 flavors:
1.8 16v
2.2 16v
2.0 16v turbo
anything else you'd like clearing up?
(stating the facts in an even firmer manner)

To quote from vauxhall:
A no-compromise, high performance, two-seater sports car, the VX220 features a lightweight aluminium chassis and state-of-the-art composite bodyshell. The mid-engined, rear-wheel drive show stopper employs an all-new, all-alloy 2.2i 16v ECOTEC engine producing 147PS at 5800rpm, its advanced design contributing to a maximum speed of 135mph and 0 to 60mph acceleration in just 5.6 seconds.
