Tom, my friend, I had exactly the same problem when I was looking for an Si - they're bloody rare, and whenever one comes up for sale, it is sold within a day (in my experience).
Time after time, I rang up garages/car owners and was told the car had just been sold and it was doing my nut in. This continued for about 3 months, until on autotrader I found this delightful little ad:
1995 FIESTA 1.6 Si 3DR
95 M Met blue, PAS, E/W, S/R etc, superb, only 38k.
HAMNETT PAUL
Tel: ##### ######
Distance: 56 miles
Price: £2,495
So I rang him there and then and later that day I was £2,300 poorer
I know you won't want to, but consider different colours, they're all pretty nice

I first started looking for my Si in January 1999, didn't find what I wanted until the October. I had every Autotrader, Exchange and Mart and Free Car Ads magazine for ten months. I even travelled over a 100 miles to be told it had been sold 10 minutes ago when I had no signal on my mobile. That was on my birthday and to make things worse, the damn car I'd gone to look at passed me on the way home. Keep looking, and don't settle for anything less than what you really want, it's worth it in the long run.
