what air filter to lower emissions?

hi lads and lasses, ive got a 2.0ltr but its running rich, the tuner said it was the k&n ive got on it. i know its filthy and needs a clean but would that effect the emissions?

would a 2.0 mondeo k&n be better because i dont know if its got a 1.6 one on? or would the piperX viper be better?

k&n's arent the best filters for cleanliness, u really have to keep them clean. i would suggest gettin a sponge type filter, like the pipercross range, or even Ram-air. Dont go for a messed cone like k&ns :)
