What do superchips and co do exactly?

Postby Stoned on Tue Feb 11, 2003 7:33 pm

I was speaking to Madcat yesterday about the chip on my car and he reckons that the only thing a Superchip does is too increase, or allow you to increase the boost on your turbo.

Is that it?!

I thought they would adjust the fueling, increase boost and generally map the car to run at the best of it's abilities depending on what kind of power chip you buy and your engine setup.

Mine for example is using beiege injectors and has a castle performance upgrade.

Does anyone know more?

Cheers

chip

For starters they increase the boost limit - the standard for a frst is 9psi.
There is an ecu safety cut out limit at 9psi which when you reach it throws you forward suddenly and the turbo shuts down - not nice when you are overtaking!
Therefore 7psi is the std running psi!
The chip increases the boost limit - this depends what chip you got!
I.E. Stage 1 (175bhp) chips usually have a safety cut out limit of 16psi and running at 12psi is normal.

The chip also maps the air/fuel ratio and can also use the sensors in the engine to it's advantage.
It therefore could change other limits - this is where my mind goes all fuzzy!

Hope this was helpful. :aviator:

chips can also control ure rev limit a 195 chip removes the rev limiter completely allowing 7000 rpm + (not recomended on a CVH)

a chip has the map for air fuel on it providing the fuel pressure is set correctly if it is not the air fuel mixture cannot really be set by a chip alone. it still has to be set up

stage 1 chip is usually 16psi i think for a superchips one anyway
