[FAQ] What do the digital dash readout codes mean?

Postby Tom SX on Mon Aug 30, 2004 1:53 pm

Was showing my friend how to put his trip computer in the instrument cluster into 'diagnostic' or 'test' mode, whatever you want to call it.
You know the one that everyone uses to take photos of their car with the dials off the clock etc.

His 1300 mk5 has about 20 different readouts on the digital display from mph, kph, battery readouts etc. I wondered if anyone had a list of what all the acronyms stood for? :)

I think you need hold the trip button down as you turn the ignition on.

Hi, this is how you unlock your lcd display on the dash

1. Have the engine running and press and hold the trip mileage reset button.
2. While holding down the trip mileage reset button turn the engine off.
3. Still with the trip mileage button held down start the engine.
4. After a couple of seconds the word ‘test’ will appear.
5. Now release the mileage reset button and use this to scroll through the various readings.

And this is what most of the readouts mean

1 Gage Test
2 Dial Test
3 Bulb Test
4 Diagnostic Check
5 Diagnostic Check
6 Clock Type (shows ?date 44? if UK)
7 Diagnostic Check
8 Speed MPH
9 Speed KPH
10 Revs
11 Fuel
12 Engine Type
13 Temp of Engine
14 Battery Voltage
15 Diagnostic Check
16 LCD Display

Diagnostic Check (18-30)

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Dunno, give it a try, it doesn't alter, harm or effect anything, it just displays read outs from cars diagnostics.
