What do you need for an ace system???

Postby rtlee88 on Mon Jun 19, 2006 4:45 pm

Hi dudes! i really want to set up a decent sound system, nothing major just loud enough to be noticed and look cool 8) lol! I currently have two mutant subs in a sub box and a 1200w sony xplod amp and am using an sony mp3 xplod head unit.

Thing is im gettin really confused, everyones talkin about crossovers and power capasitors and i dont really think i need them! What sort of set-up do you need in the front of you car and is the subs enough for the boot?

would i need to have my front speakers amped to hear them over the subs? Realise its a bit random but a push in the right direction would be much appreciated!

Plan your system rather than just throwing kit at it.

Get the best deck you can afford and go for there

You can build a nice sounding system for not a lot, stretching to a fookin packet for a top notch system. The system I had in my S2 stood me for almost £3k at one point. The first try I had was a complete Horlicks and sounded gash (although it was loud) with 4 6x9's on the back shelf and tweeters on the B pillars (oh the shame, but I was young).

best advice i can give you is spend as much as you can possibly afford on a good set of front components and a good amp to drive them. having a good front set up is 80% of having a good sound in your car no good spending 100s of pounds on a big sub and amp combo only to find it drownds out your hi and mid range in the front so all u hear is bass simply dreadfull its where most ppl go wrong! as Oranoco says plan your install take your time think where to run your power/rca/speaker cable. in an ideal world you would run your power down the centre of the car (seats out carpet up) and rca on one side and speaker on the other this is to minamise the chances of interferance. get the thickest power cable you can afford all amps need a good feed (mine runs 0 guage all through) also invest in a good batery no good having a shaged batery when the amp wants to draw all the power it can for that killer bass note! a power cap will help to if you listen to bass heavy tunes. i could go on for hours but if u need any help just drop me a pm! :Q

Firstly dont ever ever buy a power cap they will do more harm than good, if you want more power get a batcap :)

I wouldnt personally go for thicker than 4awg with your equipment since the wire wont fit in the terminals.

Please dont drive around with your windows down and system up...its people like that that give car audio a bad name

If you want a decent set-up it depends on what you want, sound quality or dirty streetbass. As youv already bought the equipment im guessing you dont really care about SQ, personally id go ported as the sony sub wont produce alot bass. I would amp the front speakers.

Yeah, my first sound system was just bass, so strong that you couldnt here the vocals up front.

So i would say build your system around your front. Get the best head unit you can afford, and get the best components you can afford. Also, amp these comps, as the difference will be unbelievable. (you can go passive, or active, but for you i'd say use the crossovers and go passive).
Also, if you put some soundproofing on the skin of the dorrs, you will notice a big difference.

For the bass, from what i can see, you want street bass. So with what youve got, port the box maybe. Read about the wires in the previous posts, so as to avoid interference.

Oh and if youve got a fiesta, its more than likely with a bit of bass, all the pedestrians are gonna notice youre boot rattling a lot. So you may want to try and sort that out.

My biggest tips are spend money on front end, and avoid caps, 6x9's and turning youre system up too loud.
