Keep the standard one m8....it'll be more than upto the job all the way upto around the 230bhp mark...our one was holding together with 210bhp being thrown at it night and day!! and that was fine!

u'll see speeds of around 145mph as well  as we have racing and beating Scooby's

Speed doesn't do the gearbox in - it's torque and how much stick you give it!
Doing 145 mph doesn't mean the gearbox is cool!
You could fcuk up a standard gearbox quite easily without even getting to 80 mph.

I have been through soo many gearboxes in the past and it had nothing to do with going over 145mph mate!

If however you are not going madly over 250 bhp then a standard one will probably do the tricky.

Sunny.
Do you have any idea what 178.8mph feels like in a Fiesta? 2000 lb of pressure per square inch per second pushing back on your face. It feels like god himself is trying to rip the skin off your skull while someone lands a 747 on your chest.

the mainshaft roller bearing is your big weakness
If you're going to be giving your box some real stick, then I recommend uprating the mainshaft and casing to accept the much beefier Puma bearing. Not only is it loads stronger, it doesn't mean scrapping your mainshaft when it wears out!

The strongest FWD box to use is the one from the late Fiesta RS1800 16V. It has WT92 cast in to the top of the gearbox, along with some other letters and numbers. Hope this helps.

That'll be the box I use - code IB5 (the XR2i/FRST is code B5). Very very good, much stronger and excellent ratios 1st to 4th. 5th needs replacing cuz it's only good for 130 tops (on a private road!).
