What radiator??
Hey guys,
In need of some advice!
I am taking my car of the road soon as its winter time soon. I will be converting it from XR2i to TURBO and will also be doing a T3 hybrid conversion, I have sourced a nice 1 of manifold that will easily take the T3 or T4, just need a T3 hybrid, also want a bigger non standard rad with 2 fans.
Any one know where I can get such a radiator??
Was gona go for a AIRTECH front mount intercooler with fans, this is meant for the S2 escort turbo. Will this be possible??
Will this all work with beij injectors, chiped ECU and cossie fuel pump??
Or am I just dreaming to much???

Re: What radiator??
Standard sized alloy rad should be more than up to the job. Been looking at the very same Airtec intercooler for my FRST. If you go ahead let me know how you get on.
T4 will be too big I would think in all seriousness I wouldn't go beyond stage 2 T3 with .36 exhaust housing as the .48 gives an increase in lag. Your injectors will be maxed out at about 220-230bhp so this turbo will more than suffice

So you think a stage 2 T3 with .36 exhaust housing is best?
Yeah that intercooler look the muts, was thinking if I had that why not get a radiator that will take up all the space behind the intercooler and have it showing out the front of my cossie front.

Here the best pic i have of the the fans mate, they are of the car now and boxed up.
Looking at £80 for the pair. These are mint no scratches and are very clean, only bought beginning of the year and used for 4 track days.
In the pic also shows the rad i have from Pro Alloy

The fans are 10"and 11"
the rad is the s1 escort rs turbo item from Pro Alloy fits in the hole no problems and ran perfect even with a dirty huge t34 sat behind it.

Running 235 bhp on the old set up,
The new engine has been specced for around 420bhp
although that could be growing......

Re: What radiator??
Out of intrest, what power is the standard FRST radiator good for? It's smaller than the 2i item and cools the turbo, so operating temp comes up pretty quickly. Only had it above "o" on a hot summers day at high speed.

Re: What radiator??
To be honest i would say a standard rad will suffice for upto 200+ bhp, but its when your continually pushing the car, like hard on track it will get hotter.
The best bet is to mod your car as and when you see nessecery but higher BHP is higher pressures and higher temps are put through eveything.
. The problem we face with the fiesta is that with such an enclosed space, the turbo being front mounted, and the fact the engine itself is limited in the water pipe department, it gets hot VERY hot and very quickly...
I spoke to Neil today from Fast Ford magazine and next months issue Jan 08 issue there is a modding section on the Fiestas so keep an eye out for other tips.
The main benefits for going larger rad are that you can modertae the temps.
with a front mounted intercooler you are gaining a few things too..
1 - gaining a larger surface area to collect cool air.
2 - you are locating the cooler away from the main heat source of the car.
3- You are able to run more power due to having, more room for a larger turbo, more cooling charectistics for intercooler and for your water system.
I ran my t3 turbo air cooled as i didnt want to add extra heat to the water cycle...
Nb - check that your turbos can be run without water cooling.
The gt series MUST be ran water cooled.
