What should I do?

What ways are there to tune up my 1.4 CVH carb engine? Or should I go straight fo 1.8 Zetec? The engine I'm planning to buy has 20000km and I would get it for 5500FIM (about £550). It's in top condition.
The only problem with the 1.8 is the Finnish modifying law. If I put in the 1.8 I would have to change the things that affect handling and safety (e.g. brakes) to be like the ones in RS1800 os better. So tell me what to change. My car is 1.4CLX. Also do I have to modify anything in the engine bay to get it to fit? I know I have to change the engine mounts.

If you are changing from 1.4 to 1.8 i would recommend you up-grade your brakes, suspension and wheels.
I suppose your 1.4 has quite thin tyres, so i would get some wider wheels on for better traction with the power increase.
cheers

I already have 185/60/14 wheels but i'm going to buy 195/45/15 and TSW Evo-R.
I'm just searching for better suspension. I was thinking about coil-overs.

If you can afford coil overs you get them I have the Spax PSX kit, which has adjustable shocks and it does a great job. It gave me a -60mm drop and with the front and rear strut braces the car handles like a go-kart
