the stress on the components at high RPM (tensile) is different to the stress at high power (compressive).

9k is a fair amount for standard stuff - what size - 1800 will be happy as long as its WELL balanced mate

ARP bolts are a must

Excursion - is it true that the 1800 Zetec is much stronger than the 2000 Zetec???

apparantly so in 'standard' form mate - you can feel it in how they drive - the 1800 has more metal between the bores, it feels a bit sweeter at high rpm

PHEW!

Sunny.
Do you have any idea what 178.8mph feels like in a Fiesta? 2000 lb of pressure per square inch per second pushing back on your face. It feels like god himself is trying to rip the skin off your skull while someone lands a 747 on your chest.
