wheelies!?
been having trouble with my ERST when taking bends (not corners, if ya know what i mean). i get a grumbling sound and can feel vibrations thru the floor. iv had a bearing and bottom ball joint replaced as these were thought to be the problem....but it still does it.
think is, we jacked it up ourselves at the weekend and noticed that both front wheels do not turn very freely at all, i can hear a scraping as we turn them. this cant be right can it?
i have grooved discs on and 25mm lowering springs.
could the wheels not be turning just because we had it jacked up, and it was catching on something with the suspension raised...??
all help appreciated

It sounds suspiciously as though you're brakes are dragging. ie the pads aren't retracting fully into the caliper housing and stick out a bit, so constantly dragging on the disc. If the wheels are actually quite hard to turn when jacked up, you may well be losing a fair amount of acceleration too! I suppose it's also possible that you might have a stone stuck in the pad

Emma,
More info will help narrow the problem down. Does it happen when going round left corners and right corners or only one? Is the sound coming from the front or the rear?
I am assuming you have checked the pads and they do not need replacing.
What size wheels do you have on it? Have you checked they or the tyres are not rubbing somewhere?
HTH,
John

hi john, i get the rumbling thru the floor when turning left or right, is slightly worse in one direction, and the noise and the vibrations are coming from the front. pads and grooved discs were all new 3 months ago. am running standard 15" wheels on a drop of 25mm. the rumbling noise is definately something rotational, and has occured a few times when braking too.
i jacked it up at the weekend but couldnt spot anythin that might be rubbing....did notice tho that both front wheels were pretty hard to rotate by hand and made a grinding noise when i did turn them. this would make me think that maybe the calipers are sticking now.....but on both sides..?? seems wierd. also someone mentioned that the cars limited slip differential would make the wheels difficult to turn by hand anyway, doesnt explain the grinding noise tho...

Hi Emma,
I hope you get it sorted.
The LSD's on the ERST do not tend to wear out unless they have done huge mileage. If it is more of a rumbling noise I would suspect a CV joint on one of the drive shafts but this would not account for the wheels being difficult to turn.
It could well be a caliper seizing and it would only need to be one side because as you turn one wheel the diff is trying to turn the opposite wheel. If it was one caliper seizing the car would pull to the side you had the faulty caliper on but not necessarily all the time. It could be a number of things including a pad coming of it's backing plate.
Let's hope the strip down and thorough examination works. It does for me
