noooooooooo don’t do it. It will slow her down this is a classic mistake. Reducing backpressure will reduce the performance hugely please take my advise an keep the boxes just use thinker tubing.

thicker tubing?? where can you get this from?
i've always thought that if you fit a straight through exhaust then you increase the bhp and performance slightly. Is this not true then?
so i should keep it exactly the same but just use thicker tubing?
im confused

Exactly that go to someone that fabricates exhausts e.g Mike stokes in my area, or go to power flow and they will supply it for you. An exhaust that has a bigger overall diameter and with a four branch manifold keeping original boxes design so you will not lose back pressure. A petrol engine needs back pressure its all part of the compression ratio. You’re affectively dropping it if you go straight through. In the case of a turbo'd car its the opposite a straight through pipe would increase the BHP as they are lower comp cars you can then play a little more with the boost.

carl could i ask another question mate. would it be worth paying out for a cat bypass system from say mongoose or someone? If so would this pass an emission test when at the MOT?
also why is it better to have a thicker pipe than standard?
thanks again

Well First of all is your motor actually a 2 litre or is it the 1800?
Either way I think the 1800 exhaust system is the same anyway.
Second thing is yes no doubt it would fail the MOT without a Cat. So I would avoid the cat bypass option unless you want to put the standard exhaust back on every MOT.
Third thing is literally all package exhausts e.g. mongoose, Janspeed, Magnex will have silencers and will big a bigger bore anyway.
Forth thing is the bigger bore is less restrictive, the gases are allowed to flow a lot quicker this type of exhaust system coupled up with a four branch manifold would produce a nice rumble. Not in your face so you will be pulled over every five minutes, but it certainly would produce an awesome sound. This type of exhaust would make your car perform a lot better producing a good 10 - 15 bhp in most cases, you could even expect more with an exhaust like this.

i have a 2ltr engine mate. ive already got a new rage back box thats ready to fit but just wanted to know what i should be getting for the rest of the system.
so i will stick with the ordinary cat then and just get a better pipe system.
whats the one in your picture bud?
ive emailed mike stokes to see if they do a 4 branch manifold but they haven't got back to me yet.
arent they pretty expensive though?

That’s a full Mongoose system.
Rage back box is all good but it may not fit if you go for oversize tubing A complete system manifold to back box is the best choice.
You pay for what you get mate at the end of the day. Expect to pay no more than £450 for a really all singing all dancing full system end to end though.
