as close to the TB as possible or the other end

The top end before it goes into the throttle body, i.e. between the 'T' and below the 'EFI' bit where there is a short length of pipe connecting them

can you post a pic of the act sensor and the way its fixed

interested in this gadjet ive seen the one in djs old car whats the benafit of a act gauge

Thank u very much mate :D , the ACT gauge measures the temp of the inlet air temp so it helps u to keep an eye on it as when it gets tot hot problems happen

Err, melted pistons?

If you know that as you say then you'd know that high ACT's mean that the car can cause detonation which is bad, as in holiest of holey piston bad! :lol:

If you put it too close to the engine it'll absorb a load of heat and give false readings. My TDI setup was obviously nothing like yours, but you can hopefully work out where I put it from these pics. It's on the pipe just before the inlet manifold, but out in the open where it won't be subject to heat soak:
