Which 12" Sub to go for

Postby enve19 on Tue Jan 09, 2007 10:52 am

For those of you out there with high end installs or just in the know.

I'm looking to do a new install in the motor but i'd like to go with a good spec sub. just the one sub for the time being and obviously an amp to power. Looking to spend around £250 for the sub

Any suggestions ?

Cheers

If you have £250 to spend on a sub, FT.com probably isnt your best port of call. If you want advice from people who have actually competed with and used subs of that and in excess of that value then I would personally recommend http://www.talkaudio.co.uk as it is the U.K.'s biggest online car audio forum.

True but 1 person cant have tried and tested as many as a whole community. And before you say they are biased towards CAD, they arnt affiliated with CAD anymore and whats more when I was looking at buying a sub 5/6 subs recommended werent even stocked by CAD :)

EDIT: BTW if you really do claim to know what you are on about, why did you not inquire as to what install this was for, surely you need to know whether the sub is for SQ, SPL or Streetbass as well as how much power they are going to be supplying

Thank You for all your opinions

To be honest i'm well into my bass in a big way, the heavier the better!!

So it wont really be for entering any competitions or anything, just mainly for roof flexing and perforated ear drums!!!

Thought i'd bring this back up rather than starting a new post.

I got hold of 2 Alpine SWR 1241D Subs in the end, although i'm only going to use one for the time being.

I have an Alpine MRD M500 amp to run it from.

I need to make a box for it now, i know the spec's just need to know the external measurements for the box. I cant work it out!

dual 4-ohm, 2" voice coils frequency response 24-1,000 Hz
power range 100-300 watts RMS (150 watts RMS per coil)
peak power handling 1,000 watts
sensitivity 87 dB
top-mount depth 6-15/16"
sealed box volume: 0.7-1.0 cubic feet
ported box volume: 0.75-1.75 cubic feet

It will be going in a BMW E36 3 series.

I mainly listen to Hip Hop and Reggae.

Cheers in advance for any info.

I hate to be an arse but i hope you didnt pay more than £150 for those two subs (thats if you bought them online) as they are the older versions of the type r, the new ones handle 500rms, and I have seen two 12" new type r subs on sale in the back of car mags for £150 inc box.

Anyway, wether new or old versions I love the alpines myself and have two of the 15" versons in my car, they rock!
