Which discs?

Postby Burnage on Sat Jun 24, 2006 12:49 pm

I am going to replace the front brake discs, as the old ones are getting very rusty around the rims. Which discs can people recommend? I don't drive the car hard or anything like that, but some decent stopping power would be nice as I've often got lots of people and/or luggage. I already bought some decent pads, guess I'm just looking for something a bit better than standard.

Cheers!

Which discs?

Postby Terror on Sat Jun 24, 2006 12:57 pm

Hi...

Im going to replace my discs & pads soon - mine are warped, - uh, anyway ive only got a 1.1 fiesta so don't need anything special. I am going to buy a box set of Mintex brakes, about £40 for my car, - hey if anyone knows anywhere where theyre cheaper - let me know,lol...

Lol sorry it would help wouldn't it. Mk3.5 Fez 1.8D. A poor combination of not enough power and too much weight, hence the desire for a bit more in the stopping department!

To be fair a good standard set of discs (not motorfactor cheap n cheerful) and a quality pad such as Mintex 1144 should see a marked improvement.

I see; many thanks! What exactly do you mean by 'standard'; just pop down to Halfords and find the ones that fit or were those the ones you want me to avoid!

Genuine Ford discs ideally. Avoid the £12.99 the pair efforts

Yes - avoid these, ive got these kind on my 1.1 right now - they are warped, - its a false economy as you'll only end up replacing themlol, so im now getting a set of Mintex, like I should of in the first plauce, uh...

Yeah agree the investment in quality parts is worth it, you get what you pay for. Found some EBC ones for about £23 a pair, they could be good for what I need.
