this might sound like a stupid question but i'm a complete novice at this.

how do you tell which ECU i've got for my RST as i'm looking to buy a chip for it. i know there's OFAC and OFAB but don't know which one i have

There should be a sticker on the underside of the ECU, you can also tell from the map sensor. Have you got a pic of your engine bay?
