Which filter? Pipercross Or K&N? Or something else?
Well I had a Pipercross on my Escort GTi; it came with it and I don't think it was correct for my engine; it had a step down pipe and just didn't think much of it.
A friend has also had problems with Pipercross on his BMW; he runs LPG and it for some reason blew a hole in the filter!
Anyway, picked up a 1 month old K+N, the quality seems much better, it fitted better (although that’s because it was the one listed for my car). Sounds much better as well, it’s not so raspy and naff.
I don't think much to either of K+N's or Piper's "cold air feed". Kind of stuff it in and cable tie it, not very neat or permanent looking. Most of the time the pipes can be cut down and can then extend the original air feed - it looks much neater and easier to fit.
Also the panel filters prove pretty good too.
I've had a couple of K&N's on different cars and they seem to be the choice, they get my vote.

Ohhh only 6 votes so far! Come on guys!
Also, why are they so strict about the cold air feed? Being 4 inches away etc?

Hello i voted pipercross i was happy with the one i had on my erst and will be getting for my frst. But performance wise they are properbly all about the same its just that you need to get the cold air to them. I bet you wouldnt see much difference in what little power gains you would get between the different makes. So i think your choice should be made based on build quality.

I do agree on that last post. The quality of most of them isn't too bad, I just don't like the way that they tell you to bodge on a cold air feed!
Don't like the idea of the foam filters getting sucked into the turbo! Thats some super induction suction going on there!

Personally id always favour a paper based filter over a foam based filter. But thats just personal opinion. The point about the cold air feed, if you have it too close, what you might find is the pressure is so great at the point it hits the filter from the feed, it will actually begin to degrade the material and break away, sending chunks into your injection system. Which wont do it much good at all.
