the rs1800, frst and diesel boxes are all the same strength. i think the rs1800 has the shortest ratios so would be quickest accelarating, and the diesel has the longsest ratios giving u more top end.

im running a rs1800 with my 2.0 but if i had the choice i would get an erst one with LSD.

RS1800 and XR2i 16v boxes had uprated mainshaft bearings but very short ratios.

Fiesta diesel had good long ratios, next longest were FRST ones.

I'm running an Escort MkV diesel box which gives me ratios about the same length as a Cossie, which is great for m-way cruising.

I'd recommend you go for an iB5 (1995+) gearbox but remember the early Zetecs, and all CVH and HCS engines can only run a front-mounted starter. All diesel iB5 boxes run a front-mount starter, as well as some other iB5 variants.

Plenty of information on the net if you search for it. Some sketchy info available here: http://st2000.s5.com/ftransguide.html

im running a ka IB5 gearbox with escort turbo ratios and lsd, the housing had to be modded for the starter motor, but [ERRR] the ib5 is stronger than the escort box it shouldnt spit the diff bearing out all the time
