Which speakers to go with my headunit?
I have currently got this head unit from Kenwood:
http://www.kenwood-electronics.co.uk/pr ... C-BT8041U/
The speakers are still the OEM Ford ones.
I'd like to get a little bit more bass out of the speakers, without having to add a bass box/ cannon
To get a decent enough sound from the OEM speakers, I have to have the headunit EQ settings to change the sound quite a bit.
It only allows me to just about get it to a balanced sound (Trance / UK HappyHardcore, and related genres)
They are currently set at:
All values go from -8 to +8
bass +8 (and this is not a loud bass either, just a clear bass)
mids +2 or +4 (can't remember exactly which)
highs +2 or +4 (can't remember exactly which)
What would you suggest?

Re: Which speakers to go with my headunit?
well if im right you will need to buy 13cm speakers as they are the same size.
you can either then get self tapering screws, or you could buy adaptors of ebay which also come with an adaptor so the cables from the speakers fit into the adapter then onto the ford connector.
as for a make, any make would do, if you wanted you could just get kenwood speakers but really any brand of speakers would sound the same depending on the power of the speakers.
hope this helps

Re: Which speakers to go with my headunit?
Would there be any improvement in sound quality compared the ford OEM speakers?
So would I get any more bass out of them (allowing me to turn the bass output of the headunit down)
Or would it be best to get a bass setup in the boot.
I would like to get a bass speaker, but I'll want to put my camping/walking gear in the boot, and I'm not sure if my stuff would fit if I have a bass installed.
I have had ideas of boxing the rear wheel arches and making them into bass enclosures. (probably a bad idea)
The jack would be in the way on the driver side though.
another idea if to maybe build a storage system into the boot, incorporating the bass.
It would let me use the height to an advantage.

Re: Which speakers to go with my headunit?
they could give an improvement, the main thing they will do is give the sound a better quality and make the sound louder.
if you want a better bass a would sugest a boot setup, you could consider build a false floor for the subwoffer and the amp.

Is a false floor what it seems?
a sheet of wood, to the floorplan of the boot, with the amp under it, and a sub-woofer mounted in it?

Re: Which speakers to go with my headunit?
This is sort of what I was thinking (although quite pricy) for getting a bass enclosure in my car's boot:
http://www.auto-acoustics.co.uk/index.a ... T&catid=32
I'm not sure if the self build would be cheaper?
I'd like it to be as stealthy (hidden) as possible
I know that I can take the existing carpet out, and probably just draw round it.

Re: Which speakers to go with my headunit?
Hi, the Auto Acoustic enclosures are ok for prebuilt enclosures and have plenty of room in them...it will definately be cheaper to build one yourself however its quite tricky and very time consuming...but its good to have a go!
false floors are generally there to allow you to bolt bits down onto and keep them securly fastened down...can be built with 2 layers to allow an amp to be placed on the bottom layer and covered (or shown with a cut out) by the top layer...
Speaker wise...will you be running the speakers off the headunit? also what is your budget?

Re: Which speakers to go with my headunit?
the guy who I bought the headunit from, really seems to know his stuff.
he's advised against a false floor as it could introduce extra vibrations.
true or not, I'm not going for a false floor.
he has suggested to go with:
fronts (change 1st) - change with same size, run off the headunit.
bass (add if fronts not enough) - bazooka tube(back of rear seat) run from amp (mounted left side of boot behind wheel arch)
he did mention some makes of speakers for the front, but I can't remember which.
he said 6 or 8 inches high for the bazooka tube (enclosure included)
as for budget, I don't know the market for car audio, like I do for computers (1.5TB drives have recently come to the market).
I'd like to see what quality and features actually cost before making a decision on budget.

Re: Which speakers to go with my headunit?
what he says about false floors is a load of rubbish...they are a help and will actually help REDUCE vibrations if they are attacthed and bolted to the chassis properly...so no idea howmuch he knows or if he's just getting you to buy off him...
bazooka tubes are good...they are a very old skool product that was around heavily years ago...they have died down MASSIVELY especially in the UK...again..what sub to run will depends greatly on your budget
Personally, i would say a PROPER set of front components run off an amp with fully sound deadened doors, and you will not require a sub...my front end in my Focus gets everyone questioning if the sub is on or not! dont get me wrong...the front end will never be as bassy as a sub...but invest in some good equipment and it will save you in the long run...at the end of the day...what would you prefer...just boom boom boom or something you can actually kick back and enjoy...
