Which wires are which?

Postby Mark_J on Sat Jun 17, 2006 9:43 pm

Hey all. A while ago in my old Mini I was bought a Goodmans head unit. I sold the Mini and bought a Fiesta :) . Today I took out the old stock head unit and wanted to put in my own head unit. However I don't know which wires are which as they don't appear to be standard ISO cables. Here is what I have running out of my dash;

On a black dongle (for lack of a better word):
Brown (big)
Brown & Yellow
Yellow & Grey
Yellow
Brown (small)
Red

On a yellow dongle
White & Red
Yellow & Red
Brown & White
Yellow & Brown
White & Green
Yellow & Green
White & Black
Yellow & Black

And then cables on my head unit are:
Ground - Black
Memory 12V+ - Orange
12V plus - Red
Power antenna - Orange
Rear R+ - Yellow
Rear R- - Yellow & Black
Front R+ - White
Front R- - White & Black
Rear L+ - Brown
Rear R- - Brown & Black
Front L+ - Grey
Front L- - Grey & Black

Any help is appreciated,

Mark.[/u]

Literally today I have done exactly what you want to do! Get yourself down to Halfords and buy an adaptor that will connect the two sets of wires together. If your fiesta is rubbish spec, like mine ;), you won't have any rear speakers or wiring for them. If you want to install those, you'll have to do some cutting and joining of various wires as your car wiring loom won't have the pins for them (or at least mine didn't).
