white frst
A month ago i took delivery of this frst
im sure some of you will reconise it as mintwhitefrst's old car.
i bought it off him as a non runner reason being he never managed to finish the rebuild so being brave or fool hardy (ive yet to find out which tho recently it seems the later) i decided to take a risk and purchase it.
first thing was to give it a good wash down as it had been standing for a bit
it dont look too bad in the pics but in reality the paint finish is very poor with quite a few runs and masses of orange peel all over so im gonna have to give it a good wet and dry and polish whole car tho brise mentioned it did needed flattening off i never thought it would be as intensive as it is with the major problem being contamination in the paint ie dirt and pieces of metal fillings etc so its gonna be a real time consuming job but im sure worth it when done if my back holds out from being bent over all the time LOL!!!
so it was out with light etc and on with the masking tape etc.
The next issue was the head gasket leaking as it hadnt been torqued off correctly so off with rocker cover and the 2 extra 90 degrree turns carried out im hoping this will hold out.
once i managed to get the car running i noticed it was leaking oil from the oil pressure switch so that will be replaced when i finish the paint work polishing as its going no where untill thats all done I also resigned this boy racer stuff to the bin ie white dials, starter button and a taped up boost gauge holder in the place of the center heater vents also removed the black paint off the needles returning it to how ford inteneded and refitted a new ignition barrel and holder and refitted the cowl.
Ive not bothered with pics for the clocks/cowling etc as we all know what they look like LOL!!!
Also took a trip to ford and purchased various new parts wiper arms, fittings, expansion tank and a new fuel filler cap to replace the horrible sparco thing that currently resides in its place a few other bits and pieces like screws for vents etc.im also waiting for new rear lights to arrive.
And thats it for now gonna keep on with the polishing and have just had the interior all valetted well i got one of my lads to do it on a slow day....why have a dog then bark yourself as they say...
next on my list is to check the rear suspension set up as something is really loose and the car sways from left to right with a loud cloncking noise, replace the faulty oil pressure switch refit all the engine bay bits and possibly some chrome and polished alloy into the equation and give the car a good going over before i let the M.O.T. tester loose on it.
after that i need to get it taxed and then mapped.
so for now thats all ill post more as and when i get around to working on it ive powder coating and polishing the exhaust etc in mind for the under body as the hammerite is starting to show rust through already..
But all in all im sure ive made the right decision as the history the cars got in the end itll all be worth it.............i hope no im sure it will.

fiend - petrol cap was £11.30!!! but i get a bit discount so only paid £9.33
Tanya - i never saw it before the re spray so i dont know the condition of it but id tend to agree with you there as its not the best of jobs and obviously brise is not a paint sprayer but im sure with a bit more effort ill get it up and looking good with the polisher below is my old series two that i spent ages on polishing and thats its original paint.
cheers for positive comments rs fiesta and allinking.

BRAMMER....oh cheers dude that makes me feel even better now LOL!!!
The issues are all related in one way or another to the re-spray as the faults im finding are because of the rebuild after the re-spray ....well and the few choice mods that have been added im sure they were all done with the best of intentions and i cant condone brise for that its each to there own i suppose.
You and me are purests tho so that why most of the stuff needs binning. But im getting there, yesterday i found out the drive shafts werent connected after about an hour of messing around with the gear linkage as i was told by brice that it needed adjusting when i got car off him.
so this weekend (well friday and saturday as its BIG derby day on sunday come on the toon) im just gonna start going over every connection and nut and bolt and check it all out for fitment security etc.
Thatll teach me not to buy a non runner again..... you live and learn.
MATT.. Cheers mate

Juss i have no doubt you'll have it tip top soon going by the S2 which was a belter of a car
If you need a set of side mouldings i can put you onto someone that might be able to sort you with a brand new set (a maybe i'll see what he says and if he has a price in mind)
Keep up the good work but get one of the moderators to move this to the gallery section mate it'll get more attention there

Re: white frst
The orange peel was to servere for a polisher to remove id have been on forever so i eventually managed to get some fine grade wet and dry 2000,2500 and 3000 so started to do bonnnet and after a few hours removed all the orange peel also did front wings and bumper.
can see here the paint is as flat as a witchs tit!!!!
next up i removed the sunroof and roof rails
and masked the gap all up
in preperation for tomorrow when im gonna start on the roof area
Have also removed the rear wiper and lights and number plate for when i get around to doing the rear.
Checked all the bolts underneath car too as something was cluncking found out the rear beam securing bolts were only hand tight
So although its hard work its also quite rewarding as once i get it all polished up it should be really good as the paint is now (well on the bonnet anyway) removed of all defects and really smooth.

Re: white frst
As im trying to get it to look as standard as possible i decided to get rid of the coloured section on the boot spoiler as these are normally black and white not all white so masked it off
then this happened when i was sanding it down
its fair to say this spoiler has had a "few" colour changes in its life to say the least
so looks like im gonna have to spray this bit black.also managed to flatten off the drivers door and rear quater.
I got rid of the boy racer fuel cap and replaced it with a new one i bought from ford with matching surround
then removed rear bumper to polish it away from the car as its a bit difficult to get to when fitted to the car. Also removed the remains of a towbar from the underbody of car!!!Leaving me with four big holes in the boot so gonna patch them up and respray the boot area at a later date.
been on a full day doing all this but atleast im starting to get somewhere now just gotta do passenger side..... then do it all again with 2,500 then again with 3,000 then again with the polisher  great i cant wait LOL...
atleast ill be ready for me holiday in two weeks time when if its all done its going to my mates garage and he is gonna give it the once over and put it through its mot.

Cheers knuckles
The pit may look good but the person who built the garage and the pit didnt line the pit so its a right night mare as it fill with about 3 foot of water in two days with the weather being how it is at the moment so ive got to empty it everytime i want to use it and have only just managed to get hold of a suitable pump.
Just another job on the long list of things i need to do i tell ya restoring a car AND moving house at the same time aint a good idea

Re: white frst
couldnt get the car to drive so after several adjustments on the gearlinkage i stripped the front end down and found out the drive shafts werent engaged into the gearbox as some how the end had been damaged??? so managed to get hold of some undamaged ones a refitted them so whilst i had the front end stripped down thought id better sort the wheeels out as by the looks of them theyd not been washed since the car was new.
this then when i was finished ....
then decided the colour had to go
so rubbed them down best i could and re painted them
have also go this to fit somewhere down the line
fitted new ford battery and a chrome cover for it finishing engine bay off for now.....well until i fit inlet that is...still got new expansion bottle to fit but wiating till its all run in before i fit.
then give interior a good hoover out
and finally a good wash...
then put her back to bed LOL!!!!
Waiting for a few odds and sods then its off to the MOT station and a bit running in then then off to be mapped...

Where did you get the chrome efi? I've got one for mine, but it looks awful. Either needs re doing or replacing.
