hi all

after much consideration ive decided to keep my 1.6 si and put a rs1800 lump in it but have been told that i will need to change the loom and ecu aswell.

to be blatent i have no clue about electronics and wiring.

how hard would it be to change them over with the si, is it a real ball ache

or is there anyone in the west midlands (dudley area) that can help me. i will of course pay for there time

If you've got and Si then you don't need to change all the wiring over, you can use all of the Si gear, you just need to run a CULT ecu as that is the only 130ps 1800 type which will work. Unfortunately they are like rocking horse s**t.

Ah did I answer the same question that you asked sometime ago?

If you've got a donor car then yes just swop all the wiring, it will be less time consuming and cheaper than finding a CULT and also you will learn loads.

The first loom change I did took me about eight hours, but that will be much better than searching for and then having to pay through the nose for a CULT.

As you strip it out of the RS label all the plugs and just don't forget to re-attach the earths and although it's time consuming it is quite an easy job, you'll learn a load mate and feel a genuine sense of achievement afterwards.

They came from the Fiesta RS1800 Mk3.5. The reason they are rare is because they were only produced for nine months.

Some people have said they have had good results by using an early Mondeo 2.0l ecu, DEEP, DESK, DEWY and using the 2.0l MAF sensor. This way you can keep the Si wiring and use the Si engine loom. I've not done this myself so couldn't comment but other say they've had good results. But if you're going that far you may as well just put the 2.0l engine in it.

The really later RS1800 were M/N.

As I've said I've not run the 2.0l stuff on an 1800 as they are not designed to be used together but other say they have had good results. It would be just plug and play yes but as whether you will get optimum performance I couldn't say.

If you cannot source a CULT ecu, then you can get an one of the MK3 RS1800 ecu's as long as you get an EDIS sensor wired in also.

Yes, the engine loom you have on the RS could be used with some pin changes.
