No it won't go straight in. It will require a lot of work to get it on and make it all work and will end up costing more than just dropping a 2.0 16v in from a Mondeo. You can always turbo that at a later date if you feel like it

yes but if i dropped a 2.0 in which id like to insurance would be a killer at 17.

Doing this hopefully wont add much to insurance but will give my car a extra push.

What else would it need to get working?

Insurance is a killer at 17, whatever you're driving

The insurance companies don't like inexperienced drivers in powerful cars for a perfectly good reason: you will crash.

As for sticking a turbo on, I'm no expert on the details, but there are many, many things which must be altered/strengthened on an engine, especially a petrol one, when turbocharging. You can't just bolt on a turbo somewhere between the air filter and inlet manifold, it's bye bye engine if you do!

idealy it be done over time.

there is no way i could save enoguh money to do it all in once because i just carnt save! Ive been working for a year now full time and i find it very hard to save. To save up abot £2.k to get a mint engine built just inst going to happen lol

so the plan was to get the turbo then do the rest everyother week or month etc

You'll find it a s**t load easier to insure the car with a 2.0 Mondeo motor in it than turboing the 1.6 Young driver and turbochargers tend to have insurance companies running away shouting wibble.

At 17 I'd forget it until you have at least a years no claims under your belt or there'll bve a post up about a Fiesta shaped hole in the scenery.

Not being funny mate but you need to learn to walk before you try to run

Doesn't actually fall into a particular group as it's a special but many insurance companies class it in the same catagory as teh Mondeo the engine came from. Ironically it was for this reason my mate found it easier to insure his with a 2.0 in than with a 1.8 from an XR2i

ok cheers what group is a 2litre mondeo then and thats why im planning the conversion because i had a xr2i 8valve which ment my car was classed as group 14 which is rediculous for the power compared to a 2litre

Not sure what the Mondeo is but I seem to remember 10-12 (somebody on here will know for sure).

Insurance catagories don't just go on the power. The XR2i is a hothatch and therefore is more desirable hence more nickable and more likely to be paid out on. Whereas as a 1.6Si is seen as a lukewarm hatch (despite only being 10 or so brake down) which is less desirable and nickable with less likelyhood of needing paying out on and hence is classed lower

wish is why for cash purposes i think that naturally aspirated is a much better way to go until you can get some real cash. as you can do it in small lumps rather than one uber massive lump
