Re: run around / project, mk2 xr2 updated 6/3, quad lights!
no it was sold on and a guy on xrtwo.com has it now, i forget his user name but its still about.
had a touch today, called the insurance company and told them what i wanted to do to the xr2 and how much extra it would cost, and the total extra on the £185 i already pay for the year is a big fat £0!
thats right, nothing more than a £25 admin fee to change the details over meaning it is costing me the same to insure the xr2 with a 2 litre zetec as it is with its tired 1600cvh
and before anyone says its cos im a old cnut its not, im only 27
also picked one of these up tonight for £20, should of got one ages ago but still

Re: run around / project, mk2 xr2 updated 12/3, lowering springs
small update.
saw a brand new set of lowering springs on a local web site for £30, contacted seller offering £25 and if i could pick them up next week as i couldnt really afford to get them right away, but was told someone was coming fro them in the moring and if i wanted them it was first come first served, dunno if this was true as theres not many xr2's left on the isle of wight but i bit the bullet and went and got them using some money i had set aside for someone but for £25 for a brand new set of lowering springs i didnt want to miss out on the off chance someone else would beat me too it.
im told there 40mm drop but there is nothing that states it on the box but they are lowering ones anyway so thats good enough.
i plan to use standard shocks as i cant be arsed with hassle with uprated shocks, i dont have the money to buy a new set of uprated ones and im not wasting money on s/h ones that will more than likly be shafted.
and talking of second hand i dont think i would of even got a set of s/h lowering springs for £25 let along get them delivered to the isle of wight so chuffed with my recent buy, despite the fact i shouldnt be spending any money on this xr2 due to wanting to get my rs finished but the will to finish the rs is / have driffted away at the mo
anyhow the rs aside, just a couple of pics.

the front standard ones will be reused as there fine, i got them off nomad before christmas when clark came down.
the rears however i think could do with replacing but these will be replaced with standard ones if they need doing, wont know till i take then off but new ones are about £15 each from motor factors so not a bank breaker

Re: run around / project, mk2 xr2 updated 2/4, lowering springs
right small update, although i cant afford it at the mo and shouldnt of bid, i couldnt resist and have won 2 parts for the car.
first up is a new wing, ok its not "xr2" as it dont have the body skirt holes but that dont matter a toss, it doesnt have a side repeter hole and thats what i was more interested in as my C reg xr2 doesnt have side repeters and thats what i want
won it on ebay (seller was tompeteRS off here) for £20.52 and its a gen ford wing too
also i won a RS1800 inlet manifold on ebay for £17.05 ok it dont have throttle body or injector plate, but i have a injecotr plate from a 1.6 and i will open the ports out to match the ports of the rs1800 inlet and i will use the 2 litre mondeo throttle body.
a big thanks to shaun (turboy boy, or carbon boy as hes known now ) for picking this up for me on his way to get his carbon roof
as your see its been polished up a tad, not something im worried about as i wanted it for what it is not what it looks like so it wont be polished any more now i have it
these are the pics from ebay
apart from that theres nothing else to say apart from i really am loving this xr2 its just so much fun, so much that ive almost lost interest in doing my rs and wanting to get the xr2 done first
still im gunna connect the battery on the rs and fire it up in next couple weeks and just listen to it and i know it will make me forget the xr2 for the time being

Yes it is and I have just checked for you, unfortunately all that remains is the "EX" of Jamex on one of the springs and "AME" on the other. I can't seem to find any markings at all on the fronts. Sorry Jay

Re: run around / project, mk2 xr2 updated 29/4, more new bits
ok small update.
i know have a few bits for the xr2, 3 front arm bushes, another trailing arm (makes a new pair) 2 new rear break cylinders and a set of rear shoes, brand new rocker cover gasket and new cam belt, all ebay bargins apart from the shoes which i got from tom when i got the wing.
also the engine is out he mondeo, started work on it about 10.30/11 in the morning and the engine was sat on the crain by 5, should also say i removed the complet exhaust syatem and stripped most of the bits off off the top end as i pulled it outvia the top and left the auto box in, and of course stopped for fag breaks, tea and lunch
still why rush eh.
anyway no pics at mo as i forgot but will get a few when next over there as i got a few bits left to removei want and im selling/scrapping the rest.
i even got a ad up on local IOW web site for it parts at £2 each any item no matter what it is (complete door, shocks etc) and had no takers, yet there go to scrappy and pay far more for parts still, got what i need so fcuk it

Re: run around / project, mk2 xr2 updated 17/5, more new bits
right update time, (this time lets hope i can finish it before another power cut )
right, got the engine out of the mondeo, i know i wasnt going to do any of it untill the rs was done but the mondeo was blocking the door to the rs so it had to be moved so up the parents drive it went and not wanting to take the mick and leave it there i pulled the lump out, wasnt a bad job, in the tea breaks and fag breaks i had the lump out on the stand within about 3 hours i think, and i only planed to strip the inlet and other crap off it and take engine out following day but its all good.
best bit is, i paid £30 for the car, found 98p in it and then got paid £15 for what was left by the gay that took it away, so a 2 litre lump and a few other buts including a near new exhaust 9which im selling for £30 ) has cost me £14!
i needed to get some bolts (which i have now) to bolt the lump to the stand but this is how it sits at the mo
had a few nice touches on ebay and got some right bargins.
first up from tom on here, a set of brand new rear brake shoes gen motor craft ones, i got these when i got the wing but dunno why i never said about them then
i got 2 brand new rear brake cyclinders off ebay, with postage about £8 the pair, nice one gov
i have 3 bottom arm bushes all from ebay, the gen motor craft one i bid on and won for £2.25 with post, but before that finished i found a pair listed as to be for years 89 on (mk3) which there not and was a buy it now so i got them too and i belive they were about £6 posted for the pair, then course i won the single one i had already bid on , oh well, i love my spares dont it
seeing as i plan to pait the zetec rocker cover i snapped up a brand new gen ford rocker cover gasket for £5 posted from ebay and the guy threw in a brand new cam belt too for nothing!ok i need the tentioner (cant spell) but hey ho.
the picture belows shows what can, erm, fit in a tool box with a couple of trips to a scrappy
it consists of 2 rear mk2 lenses, 2 bumper reflectors, bulb holders, switchs, boot popper as mine dont work, a zetec ISCV, well you see from the picture.
of course each time i was at the scrappy i bought stuff so these we just a bonus, i saved them from the crusher
i got this first time round along with a starter motor for my sisters metro, the boot tidy was a whooping £3
and last but not least, 2 minty mint mk2 head lights! ok there not ford one but they are mint, ok your thinking, WTF you got them for when your fitting quad lights, answer is simple, i couldnt leave them there! there too good to be trashed by some ch@v pr1ck or get crushed with the car, so i grabbed them and tbh i will fit them now as my headlights have seen better days.
i also got the front indicators too, which cost me a fiver next time ill go with bigger tool box
headlights and indicators set me back £21.20, yeah weired but he wanted £30! i had £20 and had found £1.20 in a old mondeo so still a bargin in a way
thats its for now, thought i would update it as ive updated the FRST one.
right, got the engine out of the mondeo, i know i wasnt going to do any of it untill the rs was done but the mondeo was blocking the door to the rs so it had to be moved so up the parents drive it went and not wanting to take the mick and leave it there i pulled the lump out, wasnt a bad job, in the tea breaks and fag breaks i had the lump out on the stand within about 3 hours i think, and i only planed to strip the inlet and other crap off it and take engine out following day but its all good.

headlights and indicators set me back £21.20, yeah weired but he wanted £30! i had £20 and had found £1.20 in a old mondeo so still a bargin in a way
thats its for now, thought i would update it as ive updated the FRST one.

Re: run around / project, mk2 xr2 updated 24/5, more new bits
small update, had the day doing nothing today so went over to my parents place and stuck it up he drive (as my tools were there ) was going to change the rear brake shoes but on pulling the drums off the shoes that are in there are very good, dont think they were that old when i got it as theres loads of meat on them so i left them in, both rear brake cyclinders are fine and (touch wood) leak free so they stayed in too.
bleed all the brakes to try and get the brakes a tad better and they seems to of come up a bit but i think ill off the master cylinder and front calipers for something better at a later stage.
fitted the 2 new (scrappy) head lights and front indicators as well as one of the indicator bulb holders and they are spot on, just shows how naffed the old lights were even though they looked ok-ish.
also decided to find out why the boot pop didnt work, after stripping it out the boot lid and checking it on the battery and finding it worked i though i would check for a break in the switch wire only to find when i pulled the switch out there wasnt even a fcuking plug on it!, and not one in sight, stripped the top half of dash out looking for plug and nothing , the relay is there, the fuse, the wiring that goes down to the boot, the lot, just no plug , anyway found what wires the plug had to go on and wired it in and still nothing, then i find the wiring that goes from the body to the boot lid has snapped inside the grommet so i run new wire from the boot lid right down into the boot and reconnected it and in turn fixed the "no boot light" problem, so now my boot light works
and apart from changing the split wiper blades over thats about it
found both rear ARB bushes are shot and the bushes in the trailing arms have seen better days but i have 2 brand new trailing arms for it, so when i get a chance next ill replace them and will try get some ARB bushes too.
i will also do the front tie bar bushes as there prob naffed and i have a new set "in stock" so be rude not to use them and ill give it a bit of a tidy up, remove the tow bar, replace the cracked end cap on rear bumper, off the spot light brakets on the front etc, nothing major just keeping it together.

Re: run around / project, mk2 xr2 updated 24/5, more new bits
little bit more done today, weather looked like it was gunna rain so didnt bother getting the rs out so done a bit more on this.
got the 2 litre on the engine stand in the end, finding out the bolts i got were wrong, all 4 too long and another 2 to long so spacers were made for some and the ends of others cut off, bloody things the engine is now bare and drained of oil ready for a degrease and clean up.
after wiring up the front speakers the other day i thought i would plumb in the rears only to find there wasnt any when i too the rear cards off, even the brackets were gone, looks like someone tried to fit some 6x9's in there looking at some of the metal work , still i had a couple of rear speaker brackets in stock and a couple of kenwood speakers doing nothing so there were fitted in and fresh wire ran in for them.
also i had a parcle arrive today from clark (knuckles) consiting of a brand new set of front pads and a piper cross air filter
the pads were found in his shed and are no use to him so he sent them my way so ill be fitting them next week along with some drilled and grooved discs jon (frsjon) gave me a while ago.
the air filter is for the 2 litre engine, so will be left packed away untill such time etc.
also dug the trailing arms out tonight, again will prob do them next week if i get a chance, im free monday but its my birthday then so aint doing jack on any cars

Re: run around / project, mk2 xr2 updated 31/5, more new bits
small update, i spent all day tearing the floor up at the place my rs is at then on the way home stopped in at parents for a cupper and decided to paint the block as i degreased it yesterday.
decided to do it gold for a couple resons, 1, couldnt find my red or silver hammerite, and 2 out of the black and gold i did find gold was better imo
im being tight with this build, i dont want it to go down the road i ended up going with the rs so a case of "that will be alright" is in effect with some aspects of the xr2, if i paint the engine up and have it looking ncie the colours i want etc ill want the bay done, then the bottom arms, then the tie bars then, you know where im going with that, so a coat of gold is to freshen it up rather than leave it plus being a light colour it helps to see if theres any oil leaks etc.
anyway some picks, its a love hate thing, wife and dad dont like the gold, although dad did say it was different
what ya think?
i dont think it looks bad and i like it.
also came across this pic the other day
whats peoples thoughts on the red xr2 with colour coded kit?

i really am 50/50 with the kit, if i was going for a non standard colour, like a nice blue, or something i would colour code the kit for sure, but something about the red and blck ya know
