small update.

although i should be putting money into my rs to get that done i couldnt pass this up.

a 2 litre moneo auto was up for £60 as the auto box is fcuked.
i see it up before christmas for £100 and its still there now so i called up, not even looked at it but spoke to the old boy, its got new exhaust, tyres are really good and all that cr@p so i offered £30
and he said yes :D

so i have a whole N plate blue 2 litre mondeo im picking up sunday for £30 :Q

ok its got approx 100k on the clock, but its a auto and not like it would of been reved to $hit and for 30 bucks i couldnt pass it up, and worst case if its completly naffed i scrap it and get my money back, but from what the old boy was telling me it sounds fairly sweet.

it also turns out the box slips when pulling away but if you pull away in manual form then pop it in auto it drives fine so not all bad.

anyhow will bung some pics up of it when i pick it up, but it will be parked up and left alone or as somewhere to stroe crap till the rs is finished as i am finishing that completly before even doing anything to the xr2

£30!! :aaah: nicely done. Cheap 2.0 :aviator: my engine came out of an auto, all i had to do was change the cps housing to a manual one.

yeah i changed all the usual bits over to fiesta parts, sump, pickup, water pump, flywheel etc. What i meant to say is that the only thing i had to do extra over a having a manual engine was change the cps housing.

No im using a DEWY ecu, the one that came with the engine had the code POUT and was EEC-V so wont work.

Sounds like you'v "gotgot" yourself a bargain there dude. If you get the chassis weighed in you should get more than your £30 back. So free 2.0 8)

I had a drive in an xr2 the other day. My mate baught it from this old lady whos had it from new and it has only done 45000. He wants to sell it for £750 as he can't afford to insure it lol. My god I wish I had the cash for it as its the best condition I'v seen for an origional xr2. And its red to :D

I'l get a piccy up next time I see him.

Man they are awesome cars(red tops anyways). I had it for around 2 months on loan from the guy and it really was a great car. Handling was nothing to be excited about however was soo fast for what it was. I had it off the clock a fair few times too

it sure is mate, was always my plan to have a 2 litre in it, just got to get it done now, but i want the RS on the road first before i even do anything with the xr2.
well, i will start collecting bits up for it, like 1.8 sump etc but no real work will start untill rs is on the road as i cant afford not to have a car on the road

small update, despite me needing money to crack on with my rs i could not refuse the mondeo i have said about in last few postes, a full car, 2 litre auto GLX for a bargin £30! and it came with 2 keys, 1 of which is even the red key!

the box is slipping a fair bit but reverse is fine! anyhow collected it today, the inside smelt a bit musty and theres some mouldy patches here and there and battery was as dead as elvis, but hooked up jump lead and tuned the key and she fired into life within a second of turning the key and sat and idles after a few revs.
my dad drove her back, and dispite the box slipping he says it drove excellent, no noises nothing, and when i pulled up behind him at his place i got out and had to double take as i walked past it and didnt clock it was still running it is so quite! :D
the speedo shows 172k miles, but although i have nothing to back it up, i think it has had a new engine or the lump rebuilt at some point as its just too damn good to of done that amount of miles!
its been looked after, the exhaust isnt even a year old and cost the old boy £200 last year too

anyway its going to sit and do nothing for a while as the RS is prioity right now but as ive said for £30 i could not pass it off, its almost a shame to break it as im sure if i got it up and running i could make a few hundred on it selling it on

its got a bit of tape on the front bumper too :lol; old boy spent £400 getting a new bumper supplied and painted/fitted by ford then a couple days later someone hit it and put a hole in it and fcuked off :oooh:
thats was the other year so he tells me.

still, it dont matter to me, all i want is the bits i need the rest can be taken away

Postby jayrs on Wed Mar 05, 2008 5:50 pm

yeah i know i could mate, but theres more to it.
ill have to have a tank with a swirl pot, pref imo a intank pump, which the mk2 fiesta doesnt have, its just a tank wih a couple of pipes on it so i need to mod that.
then i need to change the fuel lines for bigger ones, and of course all the bits that need changing on the mondeo engine it self.
once all thats done i gotta pi$$ about with wiring, ok thats not hard, but i dont have all the bits to change over on the engine nor the engine loom or inlet.
and i may even need to get another ecu yet.

oh and ill have to do something about the exhaust  and as i wont have a car to drive about while doing all this its another reason why it will wait for the rs to be done.
its a bit eaiser fitting a 2 litre to a mk3 as half of the hard work is already done and if its going in a mk3 zetec then its pretty much 90% done before you start

all the spare money i have need to go on the rs to get that done, apart from the money im spending on a set of quad lights for the xr2 that i will be picking up in southampton tomorrow afternoon :Q

Re: run around / project, mk2 xr2 updated 6/3, quad lights!

Postby jayrs on Thu Mar 06, 2008 9:28 pm

very small update, i went to southampton today and meet up with a guy from xrtwo.com to pick the quad head lights up.
paid £85 and gave him a fog switch and plug, bulb holder and black face of the dash (all from the xr2 i stripped) for these lights.
always wanted a set since they were first made back in the late 90's, about 98 i belive they were made, anyhow now i have a set :Q
think i will keep them black, although i will paint them satin black as they have faded a bit as black plastic does.

1 was missing a rubber boot from the back 1 light unit but a email to quad conversions has sorced a new one for the bargin of £5.50 inc postage, unlike the £12 i had to pay on the ferry to get from isle of wight to southampton and i got off the boat and was back on it in less than 5 mins :x :x

anyway apart from that and a small repair needed to one set (bit needs sticking back down) im well happy with them, and im thinking they might find there way on the way sooner rather than later

erm, in a way yes they were hard to get hold off.
you dont see them up for sale much, all the times ive been using xrtwo.com (4 years) ive seen 1 pair up for sale and that wasnt long ago but the inner lamps were missing as intercooler pipes came out from them holes (see pic).
but i put a wanted ad up on there before and got nothing, but done it again in jan asking for just the fronts (as i was gunna make the rest) and a guy PM'ed me saying he had a set and i could have them for £100, so jumped on it.
as i say he needed a couple little bits so i give them him and £85 so im happy.

im told they dont make them anymore much quad conversions web site still list them so you might stil be able to, but there listed at £265 on there.

the light units are cibie lights so really i should be able to get replacments easy if i need to, but ill be checking out ebay for bargins anyway

another reason for posting this pic is the fact that i too will be converting the xr2 to have the bonnet open up "normal" but ill have a proper catch, not use bonnet pins like the orange car

cheers guys, yeah the bonnet on the xr2 isnt the best, nind you no fear of it flying up if you dont shut it right though   but right pain when working on the car, in fact i took it off the other day to change the manifold.
had to change it as a thread on the stud had gone and it was blowing like a $50 whore, lucky i had 3 spare xr2 manifolds

think i will deffo go for the change and have it open "normal", ill have to look into what sort of catches can be made to fit the front panel etc but thats a long way off at the mo

got the new seal for the ligh today, excellent service from quad conversions, emailed thursday night about 7pm and guy was online, got price etc, called up about 11.15 friday morning, and it was sat here in my hand at 10am this morning :)
not much point of putting a pic up of a new rubber seal so i wont bother but for £5.50 inc the post it was good, and came with the plug too.

the way there ment to be wired is the cars headlight plug plugs into the main light unit, off of the white wire i belive you branch off to a relay, from the relay into the inner fog lights, however, where im not going to fit the standard ford spot lights back on the main lights will be plugged in as normal, then the inner ones connected to the wiring for the old spot lights, all should be well as that wiring is fuses and relayed up.
