jayrs :dont mate, the missis would be up for that but not me, green cars are seen to be unlucky imo, and anyone in my family thats had a green car has had it smakced up, so it wont be green.
and thats a reason the BMW is going, thats green too
I've heard that too - having said that, Green was pretty unlucky for me too lol

its always been unluck for my family in the sense that other drivers seem crash into them and in every case, has written the cars off

Re: xr2 rebuild 2 litre made me mind up now 23/4
ok after thinking about it, it will be done as a daily.
when im next out the workshop i will have to refresh my self with what needs doing on the rear rust wise, and i fear it means buying more repair panels, although apart from the inner and outer rear arches, i might be able to make the rest to save some pennies, but i'll decide whats getting what when i look in more detail, it might work out easier just to fit the rear quarters i have, but it wont be for a bit as i cant access the drivers rear for a good look due to how its laid up.
anyway, cheers for the help guys, i really appreciate the comments to help me make my mind up, and i hope to get cracking on it fairly soon, but as you know (or most of ya will) im doing clarks rs at the mo so once thats finished, its full steam ahead with this
1 thing i will add though, im still really considering fitting aircon to it, so thats gunna take a bit of time getting that done, but im sick of having a daily with no fcuking aircon and for those that dont know, i do refigeration and air con for a living so testing and charging of the system isnt a problem

its got a sunroof jony
why aircon, why not, its not impossiable to do, and after all, how my mk2's do yuo see with aircon on
it wont or shouldnt cost that much, gas wont cost me nothing, parts, well ill have to match a condensor to the size of evap i get but its all good, only thing ill have to faf about with is the evap, getting one the size needed to put where i want it, then making a housing for it which isnt going to sweat and soke the inside of the car, but i have the plans in my head about how its all going to go, and i have a rough idea of a few cars to look at to see how there evaps etc are.
the second reason for doing this, is i plan to fit AC on the RS at some point, but i wont be going down the mk4 dash and heater route, i will keep the mk3 stuff and work around it, and the chance oif getting my hands on my mk3 air con stuff is going to be slim to fcuk all now days

fcuk me, i dont even trust me yet
na it will be alright im sure, when the time comes for it and i start looking into it in more detail (just aint got the time now belive it or not) then i'll go from there, if its going to be major ball ache then i wont bother, but the only thing that could pose a problem is the bulk head design of the mk2 not falling in line with the plan i have for the AC

Re: xr2 rebuild 2 litre made me mind up now 22/3/12
holy crap, nearly a year since the last update
well, i havent touched the car, but, i do have a update as such.
while at the scrap yard yesterday, i came across a mk2 fiesta, old C reg, on close inspection it was pretty good condition really, but best of all, the boot floor was fcuking mint!!!!
now i know its been a while, but if you have been following this thread so far you will know, like many mk2's, the conners of my boot floor have gone, and ive been wanting a mint boot floor to replace it with, well, now i have one
got up there first thing this morning tooled up with hammers, chisels, hack saws and a small axe and cut the boot floor out.
while i was there i got a few other bits, outer door weather strips, windscreen rubber (as i had to cut mine when i removed the screen) under dash carpets, and a few other small bits i er, paid for
work on the car wont continue untill clarks is done, but as i got these bits, thought i just as well update the thread with it

Re: xr2 rebuild 2 litre made me mind up now 22/3/12
cheers guys, and best of all, he wanted a tenner for the boot floor
i thought this was a bit much just kidding, i would of paid upto £50 for it tbh, but i got the boot floor, windscreen rubber, under dash carpets, weather strips, front washer bottle, and a puma rear fog light for £20, happy days
front washer bottle and puma fog light are for clark, so take off a fiver for them 2 bits, means i got my bits for £15, good day pikeying me thinks
i would of had both the doors off the car too, but the passanger ones got a dirty great dent 3/4 of its length about 3 inch below the swage line and the drivers door had a large dent (the springy sort if you know what i mean) just under the swage line dead centre, but both door are completey rot free, such a shame, it really is, but im still tempted to get the drivers door as it could be fixed, but it means pissing about repairing it, will have to double check my spare doors to see how good they are, from what i remember there rot free but door a few door dents in them.
and mark your right, there was 1 5 door mk3 in there today, first mk3 ive seen in there for a while

Re: xr2 rebuild 2 litre made me mind up now 22/3/12
cheers guys.
TBH, the small axe was the main tool used for most of the cutting, when it came to a double skin, like the top spring cups, the hack saw came into play, and i only broke one blade as i twisted the thing as i moved to get a better angle to cut
chisel was used where the axe couldnt get, and the hack saw topped out.
jony, it didnt take too long tbh, we were in the scrappy for about hour and a half i think, but we had a good reccy of the place to see what was about which was prob half hour, but really, boot floor didnt take that long to get out.
tell ya one thing though, im gunna have to invest in a cordless reciprocating saw, would of had it chopped out in about 20 min with one of them.
im thinking i might go back and chop off both sills, inner sills and a good 4-6 inch of the floor both drivers and passanger side.
i dont think mine are gone, but if its not gunna be that much money, its worth having for spares for the future
jony, im already ahead of ya there mate i got a few ideas of a jig, but i will cross that when it comes to it as im sure i will come up with a better idea between now and then
and before anyone points it out, no, it doesnt have the bulge in the back panel for the spare wheel as this was cut from a base spec car, xr2s were the only mk2's that had the bulge to allow the room in the boot for the bigger wheel, so i will cut that out from my old panel (or use a spare one i cut from a xr2 i cut up) and weld it into this one.
which makes me happy, as i now dont have to cut a section out of the brand new, gen ford base spec back panel i have

Re: xr2 rebuild 2 litre made me mind up now 22/3/12
dunno how much i will use tbh mate, once i get on the xr i will see what state the current boot flor is in and go from there, but if i remember rightly, its only the corners that have gone, but i will see whats going to be the easiest thing to do.
i would love the rest of the shell mate, but the fact ive cut this section out, he knows its goining in another car, so what would stop me refitting it into that shell.....
i will have more bits off if before its cubed though, or i hope i will, it wont be untill i have some money, but if i lose it i lose it, i dont think my floor has gone, and if the edge has in places, i can repair it with plate steel easy enough, but i will deffo try to get more bits if i can
