i would weld a bit in tbh mate, seeing as your doing what you are to it.

get a outer arch repair panel, cut the section to want off and the rusty bit out and stitch it in.
after a grind, you wouldnt need to fill it if you didnt want to as its behind the kit, but if it were mine i would fix it rather than cut it out and leave it :)

cheers jay whats the best way to do it would u cut it out then push em up to each other n just tackit or would u overlap or put summat behind it . u wouldnt fully weld it would u as it would distort under heat

fully welded is whats needed tbh mate.
if the whole arch isnt gone, then just do the bit thats needed, but i would fully weld it really.
tac it in place, then spot weld it step by step allowing time for it to cool between spots (or cool it with a blow gun on air line) and go like that and it would be fine mate.
i.e spot or 2 on left side, then right and so forth cooling all the time and it will be fine.

as for over lap or under lap, up to you, i fould mark the area on the arch to be cut out to get rid of the rust, then 5mm more i would bend in and basicly allow a lip for the new metal to sit on, so when welded and ground its flush, or as near as damn it

Image

you can buy a tool for this, called the joggler.
not cheap for a 1 off job though

bin a bit busy last few days workin on the xr mannaged to get ma wing on wich im not 100% happy about the way it turned out but it will have to do lol sorted the rust behind the wing didnt do a bad job to say im a novice welder

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

then came fittin the door wich can i say is a propper baxtered when the dash is still fitted u need small hands and a reall good 1/4" rachet

Image

Image

Image

then came some fun bits i fitted sum bits to the bay re greaced and booted the rack and fitted new track rod ends n fitted that along with header n washer tank and painted break bar

also painted the bonnet catch and wiper motor mounting plates (hammered finishd spray ) and also took the chrome strut tops of my rs n painted them to iv gone propper off (insert ghey rap term) (insert ghey rap term) chrome it looks cheap i love stainless and all though lol

Image

Image

Image

also picked up ma hubs after havin the new bearings pressed

Image

n got these and rears to match

Image

then the fun started fittin an engine on a slope with no lifting eqipment accept 2 small trolley jacks on ya own is a fun way of losing weight and pulling a muscle in ya leg

Image

Image

:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Image

Image

Image

fittin the engine was hell on ma own cuz i dint have the right kit but iv fitted all my engines this way so i expected it . i didnt know though that the mk 3 cvh engine mount is different to the mk 2 one i cut n welded my mk 3 one to fit the block lifted the engine in and the bolt that goes through the wing is no where near i may be able to cut n shut the one i got if not il have to get a xr2 one wich pisses me off cuz i just gave one away ....... :( :( :( :( :(

coming on nice mate, fitted a engine on ya own with no crane, jesus,

wing looks ok to me in the pics, you should of fitted the door first though to ensure you got the lines rights, but it looks ok in the pics mate.
and the repair behind the wing is fine, cant see anything wrong with that at all.

keep the undates coming mate :)

yeah its got a sleeve mate, the plastic bits etc shouls all come with the bushes.

im pl;anning on chopping the baffle and fuel pump/sender part out of a mk3 injection tank, and welding/brazing them into a mk2 tank so i have a in tank pump.

a lot of people use the standard xr2 tank with a external pump, norm mounted in the bay and dont allow the tank to drop below 1/4 tank, as it dont have baffles it can cause probs when conering etc.
other will fit the CFI tank from a mk2, yep some mk2s had CFI, it has a baffle in the tank, but uses a external pump, so some use this set up.
me being me will go 1 step further as above

as for lines, i have spare mk3 turbo lines, 2litre mondeo lines and spare xr2 lines, i will make what i can from these, if that dont work out or looks crap, then ill make new ones or get some braided ones made up, but if you use the xr2 feed line for getting fuel, and use another xr2 feed line as a return your prob be ok, as this is the set up with fuel lines used on the xr2 turbo technics set up  , but im gunna compair bore sizes etc when i come to it :)

well i have 2 plastic bits where the f**k am i gonna get another 2 is there 2 each side?????????

as for the tank is there no chance the mk3 tank will bolt up to the mk 2 if not is cutting the baffle out n weldin it into a mk 2 tank a massive job how much of the mk2 tank would u have to cut up i reckon thats a good way of doing at least u know its right then what about powering it does the sender demanda constant power from the ignition . i bet its not that simple is it . the fuel sender dont rely on the ecu at all does it . it the sender runnin all the time

i think its 1 plastic bit each side mate

mk3 tank wont fit the mk2, ive not started chopping the tanks apart yet so cant say how much of a job its gunna be tbh mate, but if you dont mind running a external pump, just use the mk2 CFI tank

bloody excellet work mate.
your doing the same as me with a lot of bits like the skirts and the fuel tank :Q

its coming on great mate, nice touch with the throttle cable  , not sure on the look of the drain pipe but its different enough, everyone uses the K&N pipes or a FRST charge carrier.
i was thinking of a custom inlet to save it going over the rocker but i'll prob use the spare FRST carrier i got

keep the work going and updates coming :Q

get a alloy or stainless pipe knocked up mate.

yeah i did, i got rivets and the plastic inserts for the body, only thing i didnt get was the side skirt fixing screws, but i can reuse my own.
i got them off someone on xrtwo.com who was selling them, im sure ford still do them as rivets are same as fitted on the mk3 mate

IL try ford . I wanted stainless but ya can't get stainless 70 mm that's thin walled well I can't find it n alloy means paying someone wich I don't do lol il look into but I reckon it's gonna be drainpipe as I just want this car for a nock about not a flash example.
